POPSEqual protection.. Jefferson spoke eloquently of the "rights of the minority in the face of the tyranny of the majority" ... apparently, we've forgotten that lesson. The idea that 50+% of the people can decide to take away ANY particular groups rights is a scary one...

POPSThe silliness of trying to legislate love... Sure -- there are some concepts that we (mostly) all agree on; like waiting until children are "of age" before they are allowed to marry ... and the concept of "consensual" relationships. Beyond that, what we've done is allow religious non-sense to get in the way of interpersonal relationships.

POPSHomophobia -- this is all you go? If this is the best the right wing-nuts can muster, I'd say the batter is nearing the end (unfortunately, it isn't - and there are a few people who actually believe this crap) ... Tell me again how gay's marrying effects str8 people -- in ANY way?

POPSThe evolution of marriage... As recently as 40 years ago, head-of-household laws still subjected wives to the 'dominion' of their husbands... Why aren't these 'traditions' being 'protected'? Because those that decry gay marriage really aren't protecting traditional marriage... They are bigots who don't want a certain group of people to enjoy the same rights they do...

POPSLet's call bigots... bigots. There's nothing "protected" by passing constitutional amendments that deny rights to a class of Americans. And when you think about it -- that's really what these amendments do.

POPSA dead issue... The statistics have been clearly showing that younger folks (rightly) don't consider gay relationships and issue... It may not happen this year or in the next few, but in a decade or so this issue will completely go away -- just as interracial marriage, the idea of "separate but equal (segregation) and other forms of bigotry did.

POPSMajority seems to get it... While I'm sure this is just 'one result' it would seem the tide is turning: people are realizing that private decisions -- like a person's choice of a mate -- should be respected by government.
