POPSThe marketing machine... Good read -- how we've become the consumer culture. There was a time in America when thrift and economy were virtues. Now, keeping up with the Jone's -- even if that means buying a Hummer -- is the rage. Where will it all leave us?

POPSSober advice... While the drunken frat party was raging, some out there were making predictions based on reality....

POPSThe long road back... Krugman is usually right on -- and I agree with his analysis. With a weak manufacturing base, we've relied on the money-movers to prop up the economy for far too long. They don't really create wealth, they just redistribute it. I honestly don't know if we will come back --

POPSNaive at the top... Come-on!! You really think board members hold execs accountable to the shareholders? Exec's from one financial company are likely to serve on the board's of other financial co's ... it's an incestuous cabal designed to profit the good-ole boy network... The truly sad part is that these plutocrats have convinced most of middle-America that there dealing are "good for the economy"... Nothing could be further from the truth...

POPSSlaves to the market... While Hedges article is over the top... he does make a few good points. Somehow, people have been duped into the idea that "serving a market economy" is a goal in and of itself... that good will flow from that activity. The truth is, we create markets and financial systems to serve the common good... and without keeping that underlying premise in mind we are bound to repeat these mistakes.

POPSMore of the same? I don't think it's true, but it amazing that McCain is viable considering the economy, Katrina response, Iraq and ever other thing this administration has touched. I realize McCain has distanced himself from a lot of this, but he certainly hasn't done so on Iraq...
