POPSNo nation... There is no nation-state when religious offiliation trumps nationalism... Not that either form of dogma is "good" ... but for the political process to work, people have to believe they are first part of a nation... For many Iraqis religious affiliation defines their identify...

POPSThe Shia problem... We traded a Sunni tyrant for a Shia majority in Iraq that will be closely aligned with Iran... Both the Mahdi army and the Badr corps are funded, trained and have close ties to the Iranian Qods force... Although Maliki is attempting to do the right thing banning armed militia parties from government (they can be only one "army" in a nation-state), the effort is likely to cause his downfall. Iraq is simply not ready to be a representative democracy. These people place far more importance on religious matters than political reconciliation. The fast we realize this and get out the better...

POPSThe worst of crimes... Not only did they protect pedofiles, the church threatened anyone who exposed the secret with excommunications. Remembering these are believers, it means you have an organization threatening HELL to those who try to PROTECT children. Can you imagine a more evil organization?

POPSThe Waste on drugs The federal war on drugs has been a disaster from so many perspectives it boggles the mind. Can you think of a better way to spend $500 BILLION? Not to mention filling our jails (more than 70% of people in jail are there on drug related offenses - most of them minor)...

POPSal-Sadr ... Negotiating from Iran Sadr continues to play the political/religious card to his advantage... Forcing the government to deal with his (illegal) organization/militias will simply empower him in the eyes of the populace

POPSThe cost of deployments... We are simply asking too much from our brothers in uniform... a cost that is being paid for a low probability of an outcome in our national interest. When will we stop gambling with our military?
