hmm, just a quick impression: Would be more interesting if categories or areas of interest were used in the user profiles, so that one could pick RSS feeds from categories/user interests. Also would be useful to see the local time and time zone of the poster, so when someone says they are going to the gym, one knows if it is afternoon or midnight where he or she is.

Firefox 3.0 - offline features

by dzone  4-4-2007
Looking forward to the first "browser-operating-systems" (browser-os), that are only designed to run browser-related applications securely and conveniently. Can this also be of help to developing countries in that they might use older computers longer, with perhaps only a memory upgrade? See related links at: http://my.opera.com/DeltaZone/blog/show.dml/884214

Unresolved Del.icio.us feature request: RSS for private bookmarks
dzone
by dzone  3-26-2007
I hope they will offer a way to fetch private bookmarks as feeds soon. Right now this limitation have a direct impact on how we can continue working with information we tag as private. As it is now, I have to blog it elsewhere instead each time I need to follow-up on something, or want to collaborate on it with a limited / internal group of people. It can surely be expanded onto a very useful feature, even one worth paying for, if done right. For example by providing a separate "private group" feature that lets us separate "for-my-eyes-only" from "private group", and the posssibility to feed both in a secure way. Really miss SSL here too. Another feature worth paying for...

Vocabulary permissions module suffers from a "Drupal limitation"
dzone
by dzone  3-25-2007
"User A creates a node and applies some terms from various vocabs. Now, user B comes along and edits the node. But user B has some vocabs removed from his node edit page by your module. Now when user B submits the node form Drupal removes ALL terms in ALL vocabs, then re-adds them. However, it cannot "re-add" terms that you didn't allow user B to have. So, effectively user B has managed to deleted terms in vocabs she didn't have access to."

Drupal vs. WordPress: Which is better for blogging?
dzone
by dzone  3-22-2007
Drupal is more a result of a strategic choice. For example for people/organisations that has some sort of strategy for how they are going to (re)use and grow with their data (and competence) in the long run. If you only need a modern blog, Drupal is overkill. For a web site or community that is setting up a solution that shall offer blogging as part of other features, however, it is more relevant to consider Drupal. An aspect that should not be taken lightly, is the nature of open source when it comes to staying on top of all bugs and security fixes. A blogger that cannot administer security issues alone, might be in the situation where it is a choice between a free Wordpress hosted (and maintained) blog, or paying for a maintained Drupal site somewhere.

Providing user accounts that may have serveral identities each with a distinct email address will become crucial. Yahoo is doing this right, although not perfect yet. They seem not to have fully understood the potential power (hidden jewel) they have had for years now.
