POPSThe Assasination of Benazir Bhutto When in power, corruption hemmed in around her, and her visions were stalemated by the reality of bureaucratic government. She was at her best when she was disenfranchised, chiding those in control. In power she was a bureaucrat, but in opposition she was an icon. Now she has died as icons die, as opposition leaders die, in an explosive annihilation of waves of humanity. ...at the back gate of a park after a speech, on the eve of her comeback.

POPSThe 14 characteristics of a fascist society Dr. Lawrence Britt, a political scientist, wrote an article about fascism which appeared in Free Inquiry magazine, a journal of humanist thought. Dr. Britt studied the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile). He found the regimes all had 14 things in common, and he calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism. The article is titled "Fascism Anyone?," and appears in Free Inquiry’s Spring 2003 issue on page 20.

POPSPat Tillman Murdered? Pat Tillman was an atheist. He was killed under suspicious circumstances. Could it be that they burned his diary to hide that his "men" got rid of him for his atheism?

POPSGeorge Carlin's theology I never heard this routine until Carlin died. It's pretty brilliant. If you're religious and easily offended, don't read it.

POPSThe Imminent Collapse Of China
Contrary to popular myth, the Chinese have very little common sense when it comes to business. Virtually no Chinese-run company is internationally competitive. What's driving the Chinese economy? Pixie dust: The collective power of 1.3 Billion pairs of hands clapping to keep Tinker Bell alive. The business world is as riddled with corruption, nepotism and waste as the government. Often times, there is no difference at all between state and industry. This will end the same way it did for America in the thirties: with collapse. Investing in companies based only on enthusasim, nationalism, or just excitement and ignorance. (Gee, I'd really like to buy some stocks but I don't know which ones, oh well, let's get these, they have a pretty color, and your cousin works there, doesn't he?) I'll say it on the record right now: stay away from China if you have a business. Do everything you can to insulate yourself, because this is one house of cards that's gonna come tumbling down, and

POPSIsraeli/French BANKS Money Laundering on Grand Scale "Embattled French bank Societe Generale faces fresh troubles Monday when a trial opens in Paris involving a vast money laundering scam between France and Israel. Four banks, including Societe Generale, and 138 people, including the bank's chairman Daniel Bouton, are on trial over the multi-million dollar scam that allegedly began in the late 1990s. The other banks include Societe Marseillaise de Credit, Barclays France and the National Bank of Pakistan. Societe Generale revealed late last month it had lost a staggering 4.8 billion euros (7.1 billion dollars) in the biggest rogue trading scandal in history. Takeover talk is now swirling around France's third largest bank, with two French banks eyeing a possible bid on Societe Generale. " ...AFP

POPSIt's Treason If their treason continues, then decent and thinking citizens everywhere -- concerned patriots all -- can only weep for their country What do you reckon folks? Any grand heroes out there in the wings waiting to ride in and save the good ol' US of A from self-destructing? A Democrat? Republican? Elections? Captain America? Superman? Batman? Naaa, Gotham City is doomed . Prepared for life under the eternal rule of Lex Luther and Co. They say you get the government you deserve. Maybe that's true! The politicians, the media and even the people have betrayed the USA and everything She supposedly stood for, by allowing it to happen. Such a shame. The USA had such a bright future once. What a shame to peak so young and throw it all away. A real shame.

POPSCondi Is a Hypocrite It's widely whispered in inner circles that Condi is a lesbian. I find her lust for power disgusting and her "moral values" which are not for herself but others even more disgusting. I think she will eventually end up as one of the biggest Republican scandals ever. It's just a matter of time.

POPS"Liberal" vs. "Conservative" And the last bit; The forces of greed and corruption have become very powerful in recent years. I can only encourage idealistic people to keep struggling, to fight the inertia, to continue working to make the world a better place.

POPSTorture Inc. - America's Brutal Prisons Go to the site for the video. It's frightening to think this is going on in America. Check out the comments there too. There are lots of links and more info. It can be done, to clean up the corruption though. Hats off to James McDonough, who cleaned up the corruption at Florida's Department of Corrections. :) Drunken Orgies Tainted System

POPSOAS Killer Contractors from Latin America in Iraq. "It is ironic, for instance, that the U.S. government presses the Colombian military to protect human rights on its own soil, yet hires Colombian ex-soldiers to work in Iraq through private firms whose vetting procedures are less than transparent. Moreover, the United States has invested a good deal of money and effort into helping the region’s new democracies transform their militaries and police forces into professional cadres that respect human rights and abide by civilian control. Yet the contracting phenomenon directly challenges these goals when PMFs drain the best trained and most motivated soldiers and police officers out of regular service to their own societies, and when militaries provide PMFs with munitions and infrastructure—public resources—without seeking authorization from their civilian defense ministry superiors."

POPSIraq Criminal Investigation: $6 Billion Pentagon Contracts More: Representative John Kline, a Minnesota Republican and retired Marine colonel, said he was “doubly, triply, quadruply appalled” at the “clear breakdown in leadership” that allowed some Army contracting officers to corrupt the procurement system. He said it was inexcusable that it took so long for the Army to put adequate checks in place.

POPSGonzales's Truthfulness Long Disputed What a sad spectacle it all is. Questions about Gonzales's willingness to shade the truth on Bush's behalf came to prominence in the 1996 episode in which Bush was excused from Texas jury duty in a drunken-driving case. Bush was then the state's governor, and Gonzales was his general counsel. If Bush had served, he probably would have had to disclose his own drunken-driving conviction in Maine two decades earlier.
