POPSOne More Try - SB 250 CA Spaying & Neutering (Florez) Is this bill different than Mancuso's AB 1634 "CA Healthy Pets Act?" Currently SB 250 requires an "owner or custodian" to provide a certificate of sterility, unless written confirmation is obtained from a licensed veterinarian that serious bodily harm, or death would result from spaying, or neutering the animal. California animal owners are wary of a change in the legal status of animals as a result of the use of a term other than owner. Custodian does not have a legal definition and is not legally equivalent to the term guardian. Still, the use of the word custodian will cause reticence for some to support SB 250. I currently hold a watch position for this bill.

POPSProtect Pets Write to the Governor and your state representatives to stop taxation of veterinary services. Health care services should not be taxed, even for animals.

POPSVeterinary Whistleblowers Don't Win We think we are protected by Whistle blower laws, but Universities have lots of attorneys and they have protections or immunities. The University veterinarians have a really tough job. Whistle blowers rarely come out well.

POPSDr. Jean Dodds Defends the Rabies Challenge Fund Dr. Dodds is a highly respected veterinarian who has worked tirelessly to understand vaccination reactions and to provide a scientific foundation for vaccination protocols and alternative means to provide for animal health and public safety. She supports evidenced based medicine and education for veterinarians and the public. It is disappointing to see unfounded PeTA rhetoric against such an ethical veterinarian.

POPSShortage of veterinarians Although veterinarians are recognized as a common profession, most people would be surprised that there are so few vets in the USA. The American Veterinary Medical Association has about 78,000 members.
