    Donna Haraway's Critters
    dmccluredvm
    by dmccluredvm  10-20-2009
Donna Haraway is capturing a fundamental truth in the way way humans in modern western culture interact with animals. It isn't about human domination over the animal world, but humans and animals as companions on Earth. Her request that we take a serious and new look at the relationship between humans and animals from both a cognitive and scientific perspective is laudable. I also value curiosity and the inquisitive nature of humans as "precious and fragile and not very nice virtue."

    Leveling the playing field

This bill levels the playing field for egg producers in California with those out of state egg producers. If your laying hems do not meet the Prop. 2 standard, you can't sell you eggs in California.

One More Try - SB 250 CA Spaying & Neutering (Florez)
    dmccluredvm
    by dmccluredvm  4-16-2009
Is this bill different than Mancuso's AB 1634 "CA Healthy Pets Act?" Currently SB 250 requires an "owner or custodian" to provide a certificate of sterility, unless written confirmation is obtained from a licensed veterinarian that serious bodily harm, or death would result from spaying, or neutering the animal. California animal owners are wary of a change in the legal status of animals as a result of the use of a term other than owner. Custodian does not have a legal definition and is not legally equivalent to the term guardian. Still, the use of the word custodian will cause reticence for some to support SB 250. I currently hold a watch position for this bill.
