POPSObama Snubs Dalai Lama to Please China Obama is scared of China and he thinks that by snubbing the Dalai Lama this will somehow show China the U.S. knows how to choose its friends? This is a disgusting display of kowtowing. And Obama won the Nobel prize for what? Oh yeah, "Extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

POPSSurprise winner of Obama stimulus spending: gun industry Gun culture magazines in the ‘90s named President Clinton ‘gun salesman of the year’, but Obama has become the gun salesman of the century. As police departments order new firearms using stimulus funds, there's more than a little irony in the fact that a president whom the gun industry looked upon with suspicion has put forward a federal program from which gunmakers are benefiting. It seems the Democrats have realized they have become victims of their own antigun propaganda. Among the general public, a record 1 million guns were sold across the U. S. in August alone, rebuffing expectations that, after 10 months, the post-Obama election gun-buying spree would abate. Gunmaker Smith & Wesson on Wednesday reported a 30% rise in sales in the first quarter, leading to unexpected profits and a rising stock price. For those of you who are for gun control, how do you like your president now?

POPSCharges Against ‘New Black Panthers’ Dropped The Obama administration won the case last month, but moved to dismiss the charges on May 15. Aren’t what these guys were charged with federal offenses? These thugs were allowed to get away with threatening voters at polling stations and hate crimes. The acting Assistant Atty General for civil rights Loretta King, a career senior executive service official named by President Obama to temporarily fill the position, ordered a delay after a meeting between political appointees and career supervisors. What could possibly have take place in that meeting to lead to dropping these despicable charges? If anyone knows, please comment and let us all know.

POPSVan Jones Resigns Van Jones, well-known in the environmental movement, was a civil-rights activist in California before shifting his attention to environmental and energy issues. He is known for laying out a broad vision of a green economy. Jones flatly said in an earlier statement that he did not agree with the petition's stand on the 9/11 attacks and that "it certainly does not reflect my views, now or ever." As for his other comments he made before joining Obama's team, Jones said, "If I have offended anyone with statements I made in the past, I apologize." Despite his apologies, Republicans demanded Jones quit. Fox News Channel host Glenn Beck repeatedly denounced Jones after a group the adviser co-founded, ColorofChange.org, led an advertising boycott against Beck's show to protest his claim that Obama is a racist.

POPSWrist-slap and Tackle: Obama Goes Mild on CIA Torture http://chris-floyd.com/component/content/artic
Holder has announced a tepid probe into some of the possible "excesses" committed by a few CIA interrogators, while letting the true architects and perpetrators of an elaborate, deliberate, inherent system of torture get off scot-free. Glenn Greenwald has many of the details here and here, among them the telling – and damning – fact that Obama and Holder have apparently decided that the "torture memos" prepared at the White House's order should be considered "settled law;" that is, only those agents whose tortures might have gone a bit beyond the already heinous tortures "allowed" by the White House memos are to be investigated for possible prosecution. As long as you stayed within the gruesome "guidelines" of the White House torture memos, then your atrocities are now to be considered "legal." This is yet another open reinforcement of the long-established covert practice of what we might call Nixon's Law: "If the president orders it, it cannot be illegal."

POPSThe GOP’s Misplaced Rage To a large extent, Obama is only cleaning up messes created by Bush. This is not to say Obama hasn’t made mistakes himself, but even they can be blamed on Bush insofar as Bush’s incompetence led to the election of a Democrat. If he had done half as good a job as most Republicans have talked themselves into believing he did, McCain would have won easily. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the recession began in December 2007—long before Obama was even nominated.

POPSMore Race-based policies from the Obama administration
His entrance into the dust-up between a Massachusetts police officer and Dr. Henry Gates proves that as far as our President is concerned, if you're white, you're not right. He played the race-card in a grand Presidential trump, accusing a white cop of violating a black man's rights. He refused to even consider that his friend, the esteemed doctor, behaved like a titty baby. The Administration's own numbers show that rural America is a diverse community. There is no need for Government intervention. Morris Dees of the Southern Poverty Law Center acknowledges that the rise in "hate" groups is astounding, in the last five years, we’ve seen a 30% increase in the number of hate groups. There you have it. All those years of Government mandated affirmative action programs have failed. If the goal was to improve racial relations, they missed it by a country mile. Further proof that the last thing the rural community needs is a bunch of liberal urbanites dictating how we live.

POPSWhy Doesn’t Obama Care About Freedom? Biting commentary on how Obama’s indifference toward Cuban freedom fighters. This, in light of his recent apparent reticence to support Iran’s pro-freedom demonstrators, paints an ugly picture of the leader of the most powerful democracy on the planet aligning himself not with those brave souls fighting for freedom but more with their oppressors. Given Obama’s association with people such as Communist Frank Marshall Davis, his mentor and father-figure, and anti-American crackpot Miguel D'Escoto, the U.N. General Assembly President, Obama is beginning to appear more as a revolutionary Marxist who sympathizes not with those being oppressed by anti-American governments but with the governments themselves. He is walking a very thin line between facilitating peace among opposing nations and helping to cement the UN’s idea of a world government financed by global taxes. According to the author he appears to be leaning heavily towards socialism.

POPSCommunist UN Boss Praises “Mother Earth”
The UN is convening a three-day summit of world leaders from 24 to 26 June 2009 at its New York Headquarters to assess the worst global economic downturn since the Great Depression., and the theme is ‘a new international socialist order’. General Assembly President Miguel d’Escoto states “If we don't replace capitalism with international socialism we could arrive at the same destiny which has already befallen the dinosaurs." In fact, Soviet-style communism went the way of the dinosaurs but its adherents, such as D'Escoto, are very much alive, and working with the Obama administration through the U.N. That was evident in the opening remarks to the conference provided by Obama's very good friend and close adviser, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan E. Rice. She said that the United States had "placed the highest priority" on the conference and that "President Obama understands that our collective response to the crisis will make up an important moment in world history."

POPSUncle Sam Enters the Great Nanny State Debate Obama calls for “a new era of responsibility” and conservatives say this undermines personal responsibility? I think it challenges corporations to exercise responsibility in what they pass off as ‘healthy’ to consumers. If raising taxes on unhealthy products works to stop people from buying this junk then so be it. It’s not a matter of morality, it’s a matter of health. A healthier populace will cut down on health care costs. Hopefully, everyone can agree on this point.

POPSFox caught with its pants down on ABC attacks Apparently, FoxNews suffers from ‘selective memory loss’. Are they so blinded by their hatred for all things Obama that they don’t recognize their own tactics? There’s a video mashup of what Fox is saying now — and what it reported then, including footage from its fawning specials on both Bush and Cheney. Let the record show that I think the republicans should have equal say on this topic, and that the way Obama and ABC is presenting this ‘infomercial’ exclusive of republican input is a bit underhanded, but I’m sure FoxNews understands that Obama is president and he can do it this way if he wants. :)

POPSWashington Post fires its best columnist What makes this firing so bizarre and worthy of inquiry is that Froomkin was easily one of the most linked-to and cited Post columnists. At a time when newspapers are relying more and more on online traffic, the Post just fired the person who, in 2007, wrote 3 out of the top 10 most-trafficked columns. Froomkin's statement: I’m terribly disappointed. I was told that it had been determined that my White House Watch blog wasn’t "working" anymore. But from what I could tell, it was still working very well. I also thought White House Watch was a great fit with The Washington Post brand, and what its readers reasonably expect from the Post online. As I’ve written elsewhere, I think that the future success of our business depends on journalists enthusiastically pursuing accountability and calling it like they see it. That’s what I tried to do every day. Now I guess I'll have to try to do it someplace else.

POPSSenate votes to block release of torture photographs Who are they trying to protect? They claim to protect the people of the U.S. but they are actually protecting members and actions of the Bush administration. Obama’s talk of ‘greater openness’ has now been watered down with ‘as long as it does not open us to lawsuits’. The best and most effective way to protect American lives is to stop demeaning ourselves by dehumanizing anyone who does not follow our belief system. The day the U.S. openly acknowledges it is in the business of colonialization for the purpose of controlling the world and then vows to stop the practice and allow others to live in peace, in whatever manner they see fit, is the day we will all start on the road to a more peaceful existence.

POPSObama opposes release of torture photos I agree with Obama that the release of these photos would not add any additional benefit to the ublic’s understanding of the story. However, this is as far as I go in agreeing with him. It is not up to him or any other politician to decide what is newsworthy. The purpose of a free press is to allow the citizenry to see for themselves what our government, and its agents, i.e. military personnel, is involved in. We decide what is newsworthy and any attempt to withhold information not only gives the impression of a cover up but constitutes an attack on ‘freedom of press’. It is disingenuous of Obama to claim transparency and then attempt to keep information away from us.

POPSObama legal team wants to limit defendants' rights Hear that sound? The chip, chip, chipping away of our constitutional rights? Apparently, it doesn’t matter if the president is republican or democrat we are all going to lose in the end. Even if the court decides not to hear the case, the fact that Obama wants to overturn this means he is willing to put constitutional rights aside to get what he wants. This is indicative of how much closer we are coming to a police state.

POPSObama's no prosecution vow meets resistance When crimes have been committed, the American legal system demands accountability," said Anthony Romero, the ACLU's executive director. "Enforcing the nation's laws should not be a political decision," he added.

POPSObama Admin Embraces Bush Position on Warrantless Wiretapping & Secrecy "President Obama promised the American people a new era of transparency, accountability, and respect for civil liberties," said EFF Senior Staff Attorney Kevin Bankston. "But with the Obama Justice Department continuing the Bush administration's cover-up of the National Security Agency's dragnet surveillance of millions of Americans, and insisting that the much-publicized warrantless wiretapping program is still a 'secret' that cannot be reviewed by the courts, it feels like deja vu all over again."

POPSRepublicans Whining Because Obama Is Working Around Thie Obstructions Republicans are howling about the proposal to expand health coverage and tax greenhouse gas emissions without their input, warning that it could irrevocably damage relations with the new president. "Warning that it could irrevocably damage relations with the new president." Right, those would be the relations where Obama bent over backwards, even offered the GOP 3 cabinet posts, and in return 3 of them - a whopping 3 - voted for the stimulus package. What "relations" are the Republicans talking about?
