POPSNew study offers solution to global fisheries collapse
The results of this study are certain to have wide-ranging implications as more fisheries in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and elsewhere consider switching to catch shares systems. It is particularly timely for the West Coast of the United States, where the groundfish fishery – which encompasses more than 80 species including sole, rockfish (snapper), hake, and sablefish (Alaskan black cod) – is likely to transition to catch shares. This paper provides the first global evidence that catch shares lead to better biological outcomes, and contributes an important scientific basis to the discussions. The Pacific Fisheries Management Council, which manages the groundfish fishery on the West Coast, will make their final decision on the week of November 2, 2008. Interesting and encouraging: This new study also offers hope that fisheries can resist the widespread global collapse projected two years ago by Boris Worm of Dalhousie University, Halifax and colleagues.

Yet MAF told farm owner Allan Crafar this was just a management issue and not worthy of prosecution. MAF has confirmed to interest.co.nz it visited the farm near Benneydale on September 7 and slaughtered many calves. It said it was still considering the matter. WTF!

POPSCircuit City, I Won’t Miss You I was at a Circuit City last year attempting to buy a keyboard and was told they couldn’t make the sale because their computers were down. I asked if they could just give me a hand written receipt and the cashier refused. I pointed out that a handheld calculator could figure the tax on the clearly marked price of the item and still she would not budge. So, they lost the sale and a customer Have we really gotten so dependent on computers that a business will lose money when they go down? This same thing happened at a different another store (not Circuit City) a couple of years ago and the cashier did indeed make the sale because he actually used the calculator to total it all up. Computers are our future but you still should be able to at least use a calculator.

POPSScientology recruiting via facebook? I was playing poker on facebook, & suddenly realized the advertisement on the left pointed to a vacancy for the company U-Man. Normally, I wouldn't click through, but the name U-Man grabbed my attention since I happen to know it's a scientology affiliated organization "selling their Tech" in management circles. Are they're trying to "get some raw meat into the shop"? And it just so happens I'm looking for work right now. What do you think, should I apply? Should I mention that I graduated doing thesis on Scientology? Sure they must be interested ... ;D Also: props to facebook for directing this ad to me. That's some pretty nifty targeted advertising.

Doe #2 alleges in a sworn declaration that, based on information provided to him by former colleagues, "it appears that Mr. Prince and his employees murdered, or had murdered, one or more persons who have provided information, or who were planning to provide information, to the federal authorities about the ongoing criminal conduct." John Doe #2 says he worked at Blackwater for four years; his identity is concealed in the sworn declaration because he "fear violence against me in retaliation for submitting this Declaration." He also alleges, "On several occasions after my departure from Mr. Prince's employ, Mr. Prince's management has personally threatened me with death and violence."

(for gays) Condi Rice has refused to take action that would give the life partners of gay diplomats the same rights and protections as the spouses of heterosexual diplomats. This means that partners must be left behind during long term assignments.,do not have medical coverage via the diplomat's group plan, is provided no protection or security etc. And yet she is a staunch supporter of family values. I guess she should at least be honest and state she is a supporter of straight family values only. Do ya think she's just mad because of all the lesbian rumours floating around?

POPSFUCK YOU Rocky Mountain Chocolate I'll never forget when my oldest daughter was about 2 years old and had to use the bathroom while I was shopping in a store and management said the bathroom was for employee's only. My daughter was crying and I told her you either let this child use the bathroom or you get a mop and clean up her mess NOW. She chose the bathroom. Business has to start respecting the customers who give them their wealth.
