POPSProtesting Clippers could face Prison or Fines. Well it's too late for me I reckon, so I might as well just keep on keepin' on peacefully protesting. Now more than ever, it seems so necessary. This is another "I dare you" clip. Are they trying to scare, intimidate or threaten people to the point, that they just don't dare comment or clip or pop or blog or speak out anymore? Should I just cave in and "turn myself in" quarterly and bow down to oppression? I think not. I will not be silenced. If I ever stop clipping about all this, you'll know why. See ya in Guantanamo! - The White House's own recently de-classified strategy for "winning the war on terror" targets Internet conspiracy theories as a recruiting ground for terrorists and threatens to "diminish" their influence. - Chertoff pledged to dispatch Homeland Security agents to local police departments in order to aid in the apprehension of domestic terrorists who use the Internet as a political tool.

POPSThe Biggest Threat to the West Lies Within Itself, Not with Islam Simon Jenkins on threats to peace and democracy. This defeatism led the American Congress to allow its president to authorise torture and detention without trial in what Senator Robert Byrd called “the slow unravelling of the people’s liberties”. It enabled a British Home Office to curb free speech and habeas corpus. It arms police, fortifies buildings and impedes the free movement of citizens. It makes every Christian suspicious of every Muslim.

POPSPolitical Junkies: Why it Feels Good to Be an Extremist In The Political Brain , psychologist Drew Western summarizes fMRI experiments exploring the neuro-psychology of systematic bias and rationalization in the brains of political extremists. Finding ways to dismiss contradictory evidence triggers pleasant emotional releases in partisans' brains, eventually becoming a pleasurable, learned behavior. Once partisans had found a way to reason to false conclusions, not only did neural circuits involved in negative emotions turn off, but circuits involved in positive emotions turned on. The partisan brain didn't seem satisfied in just feeling better. It worked overtime to feel good, activating reward circuits that give partisans a jolt of positive reinforcement for their biased "reasoning." These reward circuits overlap substantially with those activated when drug addicts get their "fix," giving new meaning to the term political junkie.

POPSTake this acronym and shove it up your ass! TARP, TALF, CDO, CDS, REPO. Honestly, i am so frustrated by how confusing the entire financial collapse is made to seem. Nobody i know is able to articulate a clear sentence in trying to describe what happened. It's as though some mysterious, overly complicated algorithm went all crazy and we just need to pray that washington and wall street figure it out so we can be ok again.

POPSOnly 1 thing can slow military-industrial complex Excellent B-1 Bomber example: politically engineered. While voting is essential, it is not enough. “Unless we see our vote as part of a commitment to involve ourselves consistently and unrelentingly in the political process , our vote is wasted. This is because the forces that have led us to this economic, military, and political precipice exert such awesome power over...Washington that no single candidate or group of legislators, whatever their intentions, can possibly go up against them unless armed with an irrepressible public mandate.”

POPS'Warrior Gene' Predicts Aggressive Behavior After Provocation The PNAS paper is the first experimental test of whether MAOA-L individuals display higher levels of actual behavioral aggression in response to provocation. A total of 78 subjects took part in the experiment over networked computers (all were male students from the University of California–Santa Barbara). The results support previous research suggesting that MAOA influences aggressive behavior, with potentially important implications for interpersonal aggression, violence, political decision-making, and crime. The finding of genetic influences on aggression and punishment behavior also questions the recently proposed idea that humans are “altruistic” punishers, who willingly punish free-riders for the good of the group.

POPSThe Far Right is Getting More Extreme Everyday Having been targeted myself, I realize that this hate is not business as usual. It makes me think that the legalization of Gay Marriage is being used as an excuse for their irrational behavior. For example thay have this rant of desparation that Gay Marriage will somehow or another destroy their own marriage. But when asked how that could happen, they have nothing. In fact, I've heard this right here along with dozens of other people.

POPSMuch like love, hatred is often blind Religious and politically-based hatred: many religious and political wars that have occurred throughout history Terrorist attacks are almost always related to political arguments, religious disagreements or both. Religious and politically motivated atrocities have traditionally been inspired by greed, envy and fear.

POPSWaiting for Sarah 24 days after her nomination, Sarah Palin has yet to announce a news conference. Never before in modern American history have the American people, through the media, had so little access to a national candidate. Now why would that be?

POPSOn Stupidity Similar critiques in UK. It may be itself an example of populism - simplifying things overmuch - and certainly the full two articles require careful reading.

POPSWe Deserve to Be Robbed Matt Taibbi's article is absolutely right on the mark. Unfortunately I found it impossible to clip in a way that would bring out the important points he makes to their fullest extent. Please read the entire piece at the link above. It certainly will have you thinking about where the priorities of country are leading us, and make you wonder if we really do not deserve to be ripped off as Matt says.

POPSPersepolis I went to see this at the cinema last night. And I absolutely loved it. It's political. It's critical. It's naive. It's full of wisdom. It's funny. It's sad. Its message is simple. Its message is deep. Just wonderful!
