I admire their courage, but nothing will change, the school administration is equally, if not more liberal than the professors. If anything they're jeopardizing their grades and therefore their futures, there's no way to liberate academia from the left.      Olbermann's dominance brings out the worst in Matthews. Even Brokaw. They are both more balanced, when KO is nowhere in sight. An insightful eye can tell the difference when responding to Keith they are timidly stammering for words far enough in the extreme left bias to satisfy him. And their facial expression shows it - clearly. They are resentful, pressured, and under the thumb of Keith Olbermann. At a later point, with Olbermann gone, they are confident, balanced and natural. Myself, I can ferret out this kind of passive-aggressive, irresponsible phony journalism. There are just too many out there that cannot see that the line between news and amateurish blog has disappeared ~ probably for ever.

In their very denials, they blatantly show their bias. Watching MSNBC, I think it is possible that often they really don't think it is showing. Panel members, after multiple exchanges where 5 or 6 (against 1) make snide references in their "analysis", show disdain contrasting wildly with the fawning speech reserved for the DNC & Obama, unashamedly lashing out at speakers they felt personally offended by,...they end up putting together a pair of collective presentations that, to a bipartisan observer, are like night and day. THEN have the balls (incldng. Rachel Maddow)to come off angrily defending their smear-style "journalism" dripping with partisan unevenness of tone, and nastiness, while framing the accusation as - (get this) - a tired Republican tactic. Oh my God! I think they may actually even believe it. How are humans so removed from their own behaviors, I wonder, whether in personal or private. Denial of this nature is to the level of a serious addiction or mental disorder. I

In a nation where about 8% view the world in a similar fashion to the majority of this "community" it s quite understandable how they will use psychological maneuverings, slander, and wildly accuse those they disagree with of the tactics they themselves employ. For a rough analogy to the workings of the nasty clique lurking within THESE borders, just transpose these clipped examples to the current situation for a glimpse.

In an attempt to misrepresent, and basically LIE, dmegivern tried to post this: http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/0D13C9F9-FFB9-4238-BD46-518A7C802977/ "American Academics", implying that one group far outnumbering another in "American Academe" as it was put, must be the result of that first group attending, graduating, being part of, etc as opposed to the other, due to the supposition that they are the sophisticated, correct ones. And it would follow, presumably, that this is the reason why colleges are dominated by liberals, because simply put, anybody else isn't smart enough. Well, the article beyond a couple sentences, was available for $40 and would have made quite a different impression. One the professor would have had a different response to, I venture. (Besides, even taking your interpretation, misleading as it is, the intro referred to "centrists". Not "liberals".

    RE-defining Conflict Monitoring
    davboz

First, they had participants complete a political questionnaire, which included a question about whom, if anyone, they voted for in the 2004 presidential election, along with a scale ranging from -5 ("extremely liberal") to 5 ("extremely conservative"). Next they had participants complete a Go/No-Go task. In their version, participants were shown an M or a W, and told to respond only to one or the other by pressing a key (half the participants responded to M's, and half to W's). Responding to the target letter is the Go part, and not responding to the other letter is the No-Go part. In order to make responding the default, 80% of the 500 trials each participant saw were Go trials. This makes is so that when a No-Go trial pops up, participants face potential crosstalk interference.

    Amodio Study - Part 4/4
    davboz
    by davboz   10-7-2007    3
--<<But the original definition of CM, written six years ago by the researchers who hypothesized it, didn't presume that the habitual response was wrong, inappropriate, or objectively mismatched with current requirements. It presumed only that a stimulus had challenged the habit. According to the original definition, CM is "a system that monitors for the occurrence of conflicts in information processing." It "evaluates current levels of conflict, then passes this information on to centers responsible for control, triggering them to adjust the strength of their influence on processing." In experiments such as Amodio's, the habit is objectively wrong: You tapped the button, and the researcher knows that what you saw was a W. But real life is seldom that simple. Maybe what you saw—what you think you saw—will turn out to require a different response from the one that has hitherto served you well. Maybe it won't.

Habitual way of thinking. Informational complexity. Need to change. Those are sweeping terms. They imply that conservatives, on average, are adaptively weaker at thinking, not just button-pushing. And that implication has permeated the press. The Los Angeles Times told readers that the study "suggests that liberals are more adaptable than conservatives" and "might be better judges of the facts." Agence France Presse reported that conservatives in the study "were less flexible, refusing to deviate from old habits 'despite signals that this ... should be changed.' " The Guardian asserted, "Scientists have found that the brains of people calling themselves liberals are more able to handle conflicting and unexpected information."

Are liberals smarter than conservatives? It looks that way, according to a study published this week in Nature Neuroscience. In a rapid response test—you press a button if you're given one signal, but not if you're given a different signal—the authors found that conservatives were "more likely to make errors of commission," whereas "stronger liberalism was correlated with greater accuracy." They concluded that "a more conservative orientation is related to greater persistence in a habitual response pattern, despite signals that this response pattern should change."

Even aside from forcing content on a public which repeatedly rejects it, this "fairness" doctrine would probably regard the basic network "news" broadcasts, or PBS as neutral ,and not requiring equal time from opposing views. Communists,anti-American groups,anti-free press and anti-free market forces complain they don't have equal media voice. They've been expressing this through socialist and liberal media outlets and guest appearances on conservative talk shows.Hmmm. Know who is behind this dictatorial push for muffling of the press. On the other hand, printers of crucial national security information ought to be held in contempt or reveal the treasonous individuals.
