POPSJust to get this straight... ... the government is appealing this man's refugee status, based on the colour of his skin. Apparently, according to the Conservative Twits in government, a white man can't be a refugee, even though his life has been threatened repeatedly (and he's even been stabbed because of his skin colour) in his home country. That's a complete slice of bullshit. I don't care that it's a relatively rich white man that's the victim in this case, justice is justice. It's not social justice when a government bends over backwards the other way in an attempt to compensate for a past social inequity. If white people are being victimized, and their suffering indirectly government sanctioned in South Africa, then they are as much refugees as someone of any other skin colour trying to escape social inequity in their own homeland. Yes, it's a bitter pill that he's white and rich, but right is right.

In reality, the Single-Payer system will prevent people from going bankrupt from unexpected medical bills; something that commercial healthcare can't say. Every G20 nation except the US has Socialized medicine, and their healthcare is vastly superior to the US's, plus the fact that every single citizen gets all the healthcare they need. America needs to remake its medical system, and you can't let fearmongering by the corporate-owned Republicans stop it from happening. Of course, if they're so concerned about safety, they could always put forward greater standards for allowing people to drive. If people drive defensively, then there doesn't need to be any more fatalities than there are now; indeed there could be a lot less.

POPSRational Disagreement or Rabid Hatred? Click the link to read this entire article; it makes some very good points. Drawing equivalences between right-wingers and left-wingers is not a valid exercise. The Democrats (and Liberals) see their differences from the Republicans (and Conservatives) as a nuanced disagreement of ideals, while Republicans see it as an absolute battle of Good vs. Evil. They aren't opposing Obama because they disagree with his platform; they are against him because they think he's evil. He's been called the Anti-Christ (critical study of Revelations will reveal that he's too old). At rallies, people are screaming to kill him, and cut off his head. It's come to the point where you can't even take it for granted that Republicans accept the fact that Obama is human, just like McCain. This Republican base is acting on a very primitive level, like a lizard-brain, with no critical thought about what they're doing or why they oppose him.

The Liberals may suck hugely, but they're arms and elbows above the Conservatives.
