POPSThe Despot of the North Once again, Prime Minister Harper tries to shut down the parliamentary process because he doesn't feel that he has tyrannical control over the government. Questions are being asked about the Afghani prisoner abuses and the opposition parties are blocking his heavy-handed bills in Parliament, so he's going to stack the Senate with Conservatives (a process he vocally condemned early in his despotic reign) to give him absolute control over the government. That's not the Canadian way; that's taking a page out of Bush's fascist book. If Governor General Michael Jean approves a prorogue, there is going to be a huge outcry, and hopefully, hell to pay.

POPSA Perspective An example of how easily some life forms can be deluded into not noticing how much their environment is becoming hazardous to them. Most species notices and tries to compensate, but the Republicus conservatardi just ignore the signs of danger and blunder along in blissful denial of the threat.

POPSProper Shelving If you wanted a roadmap of Sarah Palin's delusions, then it's a good source, but if you want something where she blames everyone but herself for all her failings, then don't waste your money. Stephen Colbert had a good idea, though. Glue all the pages of it together, and hollow it out to hide your valuables in. Guaranteed, no one with any intelligence will look inside.

POPSDid someone say "Hoax"? They called the idea that the earth was round a hoax in its time as well. We all know who was right in the end. Science.

POPSAmericans: A Protrait Despite the fact that there are a lot of smart, well-informed Americans, this is the reality that is presented to the world. Or maybe it's just that people like this all have the biggest mouths and/or nothing better to do with their time than slavishly do whatever Glen Beck, Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh tell them to do.

POPSMcCain supports a Quagmire
Contrary to what failed presidential candidate John McCain has stated in this article, history tells us that success in Afghanistan is measured in getting as many of your troops out of the country alive as possible. Afghanistan is a proven destroyer of empires, and the US should stop thinking that they are better than any of the other empires that tried to tame Afghanistan through the centuries. Nothing can be gained by staying in Afghanistan other than more senseless deaths of NATO soldiers and ever greater animosity against the invading NATO troops. Certainly, it's far from a tenable solution, but in the end, fewer people will die if you just let the warlords fight it out on their own. Afghanistan is stubbornly a collective of sheikdoms that has defied being unified since before Alexander the Great. If America thinks that they are the magic pixies that are going to change that, they have a very rude awakening coming to them. Don't let NATO troops die in vain. Bring them home.

POPSA non sequiter cartoon It's already been clearly shown that the public option will be paid for by premium payments, and yet the Loony Right still screams about this strawman.

POPS"Make me laugh" Not too hard. You can always depend on the Loony Right for ridiculous antics, corruption and blatant lies you can blow out of the water.

POPSPilgrims Naïve and Inflexible. Yep. That's a good description of the Religious Right. And they're hardly alone. You can't watch any news show without seeing someone from the Religious Right spouting Outrage and Intolerance on behalf of the people who just didn't get what Christ's message was all about (Love and Acceptance)

POPSH1N1 (Swine 'Flu) overhyped After an otherwise healthy 13-year-old boy died of a H1N1 infection, demand for the vaccine jump drastically after the heavy media attention what was given to a horribly tragic, but still singular death from H1N1. Clinics were forced to shut down due to lack of supplies, and people who really should have gotten the vaccine first (like young children, pregnant mothers and seniors) lost out. H1N1 Influenza is a mere fraction of the virility of normal seasonal 'flu, and has fewer serious cases and deaths than seasonal 'flu. The normal, sensible steps you take to avoid getting the 'flu every year will work as well for H1N1. Yes, it looks serious when the media focuses on individual deaths from H1N1, but such coverage is deceptive. A few hundred deaths, Canada-side from H1N1 is tragic, but seasonal 'flu will claim several thousand, as it does every year. Just keep some perspective. Be aware; be mindful, but don't be scared. Think sensibly.

POPSCapitalism again proves to the the source of the problem
This article is a must-read. The unfair capitalist healthcare system causes a glut on doctors in rich areas where they can earn more, and a sparsity in areas where they would earn less, like poor communities. Do people still think that America can get by without reforming Healthcare? Doctor's salaries need to be standardized, so a doctor working in a dirt-poor area of Arkansas is going make the same amount (by scale of skill) as a doctor in Malibu, California. 50 million uninsured Americans, and another 50 million underinsured Americans are too many people to be excluded from proper, complete healthcare. It's criminal, and amoral. C'mon, all you right-wingers! Don't you think that women and newborn children dying from perfectly preventable causes during childbirth is more important that wondering if federal money is going to perform abortions? Don't you think that people ending up losing limbs or eyesight due to lack of care for their diabetes is more important than getting all work

POPSNot a comeback The Republicans are just as pathetic today, as they were a week ago. Americans are just saying that they're disgusted with both parties, and local issues mean more to them than party affiliations. But I suppose if the GOP don't have their delusions, they've got nothing whatsoever.

POPSMaybe there's another reason Maybe it's because he doesn't care what happens to Canada or care what Canadians want — especially Central and Eastern Canadians. Of maybe because he lives in a gilded tower, separated from the country he governs with the least transparent government in Canada's history? Or maybe he's just a jerk.

POPSJust Say Yes A healthy 13-year-old boy died today in Toronto from the H1N1 influenza virus. While H1N1 still causes severe reactions and death in significantly fewer cases than seasonal influenza, it can still kill, like any case of influenza. There's no good reason to refuse the vaccine (just paranoia and hype), and plenty of good reasons to get it. If a family's perfectly healthy, 13-year-old can go from mild symptoms to dead within 48hs, it can happen to anyone. Don't be scared; don't panic, but take reasonable precautions. That includes getting the vaccine as soon as it's available. Don't let the conspiracy theorists scare you away!

POPSConcerning Fox's War against the White House Considering that FoxNews started attacking Obama based on fantasies and lies starting in January, it's typical right-wing victimhood for them to whine like little girls when the White House takes actions to level the playing field. The only real surprise was how much the other Corporate, Right-WIng Media Outlets were in Fox's back pocket. Besides, why should FoxNews care if it's invited to press conferences, anyway? They just make up all their shit in the first place; creating and parroting strawmen and scarecrows over and over to drum the lies into the heads of their gullible viewers.
