POPSThe belly of the beast. . . I have spent a lot of my life burying the dead. I have seen the horrific wounds on what had been vital youngsters from Nam to Iraq. My point here is that there is this surreal-if that's the term- vision of war in the minds of those who rightly despair at the daily reports from far away and get on with ordinary life. We are numbed by the numbers and the sanitized and somber images of funeral honors. What more can we do? Unpleasant as this film is, it shows what I -and my father before me -have seen . How many of those who shake the saber have seen these statistics of war? It might be useful for them to look, to touch, to smell the reality. This film comes close.

POPSRudy the "moderate" In rebuttal: Glenn Greenwood "Salon" 11/15/07 See also: "Romney and Rudy on detaining Americans" ". . . the term "moderate" would be the least accurate term for Giuliani. He has one of the most extremist and war-loving foreign policy teams ever assembled for a major candidate. He has advocated or expressed openness to such radical policies as imprisoning American citizens with no trials, having Israel join NATO, and launching a first-strike tactical nuclear attack on Iran. And he speaks more glibly than virtually any individual in the country about torture."

POPSRomney and Rudy on detaining Americans "I consider as the only anchor ever yet imagined by man, by which a government can be held to the principles of its constitution" -- Thomas Jefferson to Thomas Paine, 1789. ME 7:408, Papers 15:269.

POPSCompassionate Conservatism ? ". . .too liberal because the goal was to help the poor." Mr. Gerson was a speech writer for Bush until '06. So here is the question for these "Christians"; ever read Matthew 31:46? In part; "For I was hungry and you gave food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink. . " Naked, sick, in prison, sheep, goats and whatnot. I really don't care if you believe or not, that's your business, but even the most secular folks can agree this is probably a decent thing to do. Apparently not high on the agenda for those who are going on about Jesus and ranting about a Christian nation. My Evangelical United Brethren grandmother was pretty emphatic that this passage is the requisite for getting in the Gate. But then, she actually read the book.

POPSTheocracy? Is This Good for America? Click on the link and view the embedded video to gain an awareness of the total wackiness of these people. Make no mistake about it, these people are intent on making this a Christian Nation. And if your "brand" of Christianity doesn't conform with what they deem appropriate you're as much on the outside as any non-believer. Maybe those depicted in the video are not of the Fred Phelps ilk, they are much more of a danger because of their numbers and organizational influence in politics. You've been warned!

POPSUnbelievable Ignorance I first heard about this method years ago during my high school days at a military academy. How can these people profess such ignorance in their pursuit of high office? How can we be expected to trust them?

POPSLosing Faith I guess I shouldn't be so hard on evangelicals. According to this article they're doing the world a favor if they cause people to discover reality.

POPSFear as a Natiional Position For some reason I've never bought into this fear thing. Living itself is risky. You could die today. Enjoy what you know. The future is but a fantasy and Now is the only reality we know. Make the most of it. Ninety-nine percent of politics today is fear powered. Especially on the Republican side. Free yourselves from this burden and live your lives now. It actually prepares you to face the inevitable challenges when they occur.

POPSRepublican's Candidates Not Godly Enough Republicans are in a mess. Their base, increasingly becoming less relevent every day have no one to hang their hat on who seems viable for the 2008 election. A third party candidate might just be the death knell for the Republicans.
