I have experienced this... One of the best ways to kill a productive team is to populate it with friends of another staff.

Concentration and Focus - Do you know when to let go?
connorcl
by connorcl  9-4-2008
Working in a high presser, tight deadline company can make us all feel like we have to rush from one thing to another. But that just kills our work life balance and makes a job a nightmare. No matter how crazy your job is, remember to take a break.

Rewarding Performance

Interesting idea. I don't fully agree with using "promotional products" all the time as everyone has a different "sweet spot" for recognition. Some like a good pat on the back, check or other recognition. Those "promotional products" also better be things that everyone values. Otherwise, you will be fail to motivate people...

Will our lives be better when computers run them?

Interesting, but also frightening. Can a computer predict your potential? When we all become numbers, what is the mystery of life?

Finding a job in a dual market...
connorcl
by connorcl  8-29-2008
The market is getting more and more diverse. Sub, sub, sub hiring markets abound. Just showing that there is never a "job" shortage, but there is a "talent" shortage. And we may have trouble getting a job when our "talent" is in surplus...

Higher the best with three keys or not?

Three great ways to find the best, but be careful, you might not want someone with a lot of drive or curiosity in certain roles. Sometimes you will need people who just follow instructions.

Failing does help...

I wish managers would learn this. Would help the work environment a ton. But good to add one other point - helping people understand and manage failure is important too. Too many people just never admit what really happened.
