Vikings acquitted in 100-year-old murder mystery
    Deepti
    by Deepti  4-27-2008
The discovery of the ornate Oseberg oak longboat in south Norway, with a curling prow and the bodies of two women, was one of the archaeological sensations of the early 20th century The old woman suffered from Morgagni's syndrome, a hormonal disturbance that gave her a man-like appearance with a beard and a thick-set body

    Good job making that baby
    bignosemousie
    by bignosemousie  5-30-2008    4
By Maggie Mason from MightyGirl. BNM says: With the latest crop of celebrity babies, the magazine covers are loaded with "how I lost the baby weight" stories. The outright disdain and loathing that Hollywood has for body fat is sad. You can't even create an entire human being without someone curling their lip at your glorious birthing hips, your nourishing thighs, your comforting breasts, your full joyful face. My body is more than my size. My body is amazing.

    An Interview with Neil Gaiman
    invictus
    by invictus  10-22-2006
The fact that the Sandman books sell forever is really nice, and then there’s me as a novelist, which is a completely different thing, and then there’s movies where people come along and say, “Here’s a million dollars,” and you say, “Thank you very much, that’s very nice.” You kick yourself and you look at the numbers on the check and you say, “I just got a check for a million dollars.”

    Incredible Rolling Bridge in London
    maheshcha
    by maheshcha  9-22-2008
Rather than a conventional opening bridge mechanism, consisting of a single rigid element that lifts to let boats pass, the Rolling Bridge gets out of the way by curling up until its two ends touch.

    by TheCatWhisperer  7-26-2007    1
Neat story... this cat seems to be able to tell if someone is going to die. With much greater accuracy and warning than the doctors. Cats are known (in Egyptian mythology) to have a connection to the dead.. this does not surprise me.

Salesman Jailed for Bilking Mentally Ill Man out of $30,000
    dulios
    by dulios  1-5-2008
Absolute lip-curling story about the abuse of an obviously mentally ill man. It gets 'better' though; two of the salesmen's colleagues later stole $70,000 from the man's home. They go on trial next. Justice!
