POPSThe last 26 years in 4 sentences. At first I thought it was overly simplistic, but for a sweeping overview, it's kind of frighteningly on the mark. Longish article by Salon ed-in-chief Joan Walsh reviewing Matt Bai's new book (about how the Democratic Party went to hell in a handbasket during the Bush years). Lots of interesting ideas; well worth a read.

I'd talk about how this is fitting retribution for a job poorly done and the only sane response to the bloviating of one of the key figures in p*ssing away a staggering amount of good will for this country, but I'm too busy pointing my finger and going "nyah, nyah"...

POPSAmerican fascism? From a fascinating interview w/ author Chris Hedges (son of a Presbyterian minister and a Harvard Divinity School grad) about his new book, American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America. This guy has a sense of perspective most of us don't, based on his experience as a war correspondent for the NYT. Not a religion-basher, but a realist who's incensed both with the manipulation of entire classes of people and the cluelessness of the left when it comes to awareness of the real issues we're grappling with as a society.
