Best summary yet of why Microsoft's model is f*cked.

A vile and tawdry tale, all around, but I do love reading Twisty's take on it. Go, sister!

I would like to sit down with this woman for a couple of small-batch bourbons. I'll bet we'd have a rollicking time.

Super-interesting analysis of what looks like an equally interesting New York magazine piece on the Gawker phenomenon and its wider implications. I hope I didn't already recycle the 10/22 issue...

At first I thought it was overly simplistic, but for a sweeping overview, it's kind of frighteningly on the mark. Longish article by Salon ed-in-chief Joan Walsh reviewing Matt Bai's new book (about how the Democratic Party went to hell in a handbasket during the Bush years). Lots of interesting ideas; well worth a read.

Some great discussions going on amongst the smarties in the 2Blowhards.com comments section of a couple of posts about breeders vs. non-breeders (and why we can't all get along).

    Is commerce destroying art?

An extraordinary speech about a sad state of affairs. As he says later in the talk, the amazing "visionary and democratic system" we had in place for years that exposed the average citizen to both high and low culture has been shredded by the marketplace, which is only concerned with money. Art makes us human; god help us all when we embrace nothing but commerce.

Excellent writeup of Prosper, one of the new sites that matches small lenders with small borrowers. I like the idea behind Prosper but don't have the pioneer mentality, so I was grateful for this look at how Prosper works.
