I thought this passage said it best: " If you listen to a lot of conservatives, they'll tell you that the difference between them and us is that conservatives love America and liberals hate America.... They don't get it. We love America just as much as they do. But in a different Way. You see, they love America the way a 4-year-old loves her Mommy. Liberals love America like grown-ups. To a 4-year-old, everything Mommy does is wonderful and anyone who criticizes Mommy is bad. Grown-up love means actually understanding what you love, taking the good with the bad, and helping your loved one grow. Love takes attention and work and is the best thing in the world."

Wow, a publisher of the National Review saying, "But I now see that Obama is almost the ideal candidate for this moment in American history. I disagree with him on many issues. But those don’t matter as much as what Obama offers, which is a deeply conservative view of the world. Nobody can read Obama’s books (which, it is worth noting, he wrote himself) or listen to him speak without realizing that this is a thoughtful, pragmatic, and prudent man. "

POPSThe student asked why Bush wasn't IMPEACHED, for that he was TASERED I can hear the conservatives yelling all over the blogesphere, THE NUT DESERVED WHAT HE GOT... I wonder what they would be yelling if it had happened to one of them or someone they loved. I watched the tape of the young student more times than I could stand to watch and still I could not see a reason for such a harsh punishment. Some believe we are becoming a police state with all the tasering going on by those who are suppose to protect us. I say, we're not becoming a police state ... WE ARE A POLICE STATE. I hope the American Civil Liberties Union, will get involved in this case it is just so outrageous. No one will want to allow their son or daughter to attend anything political... A closing of the minds of the young who are attending college so their minds can be opened, will be the result. It was a chilling event!

POPSWhy hate Gore? Granted, giving Gore the Nobel Prize may well be a political stunt somewhat out of proportion with the relevance of his actions. On the other hand humorless extreme conservatives have even more distorted notion of Gore. Their obsessive hatred of him is even more surreal than the hype. Why do they care so much about him? Why froth at the mouth over just one politician? Klugman provides some interesting answers, but also seems a little to simplistic. I have long been puzzeled on the vhemence with which conservatives react against environmentalism, and I don't think its as simple as pure greed.

And since I am a living, breathing consequence of his policies, flashbacks, trauma and all, you own this misery. Conservatives cannot deny facts, no matter how long and hard they try. High unemployment led to poverty. Reagan's social policies led to NO safety net. No safety net led to 32 degree F inside the house and no food. Lack of basic necessities led the State to put me and my siblings in foster care. Do I have to draw a map? If you supported him, you supported this outcome for a 10 year old and her little brothers. The 6-yr old cowered under the dinner table at the foster home for at least two weeks. This is your compassion?? And it is happening to another child or a dozen right now. Poverty leading to foster care, broken families. How do you expect anyone to forgive you? Also, alleged scholar, poor does NOT=black.

POPS How modern evangelicals are ignoring their own history Today's Christian conservatives often note that Jefferson's famous line declaring that the first amendment had created “a wall separating church and state” was not in the Constitution but in a private letter. But in that letter, Jefferson was responding to one sent to him by a group of Baptists in Danbury, Conn. We usually read Jefferson's side of that exchange. It's worth re-reading what the Danbury Baptists had to say because it reminds us that for the 18th-century evangelicals, the separation of church and state was not only required by the practicalities of their minority status, but was also demanded by God. “Religions is at all times and places a matter between God and individuals,” the Baptists wrote, warning that government “dare not assume the prerogatives of Jehova and make Laws to govern the Kingdom of Christ.” Government had no business meddling in the affairs of the soul, where there is only one Ruler.

Conservatives are all over this photo. Not because the first lady is promoting volunteerism by actually doing rather than talking, but because someone in line has a cell phone. The assumptions are: 1-the homeless cannot possibly afford a cell phone, 2-this man is homeless yet owns an expensive cell phone with all the bells and whistles and is therefore cheating the ‘system’. This article answers these assumptions very well by debunking common misconceptions many of us have of the homeless and poor. Those conservatives we most often hear from (the ones yelling the loudest) have jobs (paying much more than minimum wage), a comfortable home to go to after their job, drive a well-maintained vehicle, enjoy all the trappings that money provides, and generally are out of touch with the majority of working class people. POPSGrandually Gaining Legal Ground The reason religious conservatives have largely failed in their crusade to treat gays and lesbians as second-class citizens speaks to what Americans are all about. We may be far from perfect but every attempt at lasting discrimination in this country has failed because--bottom line--when confronted with the basic choice of equality or inequality, the vast majority of Americans will choose equality.
