    U.S. Health Insurance Price Fixing!
    citizenbfk
    by citizenbfk  10-15-2009    3
Like the bank scams on Wall St. and elsewhere much of it happen when lawmakers, like George Bush especially, removed rules and regulations that allowed banks to sell products that had no real value or sell default insurance when they didn't have the cash to pay off. Like a lot of politics it's not Left vs. Right -- it's the SuperRich exploiting the taxpayers and middle classes and getting special advantages for themselves. Now this has been revealed in the U.S. Health Care Insurance business. It's been revealed --- after months and months of discussion (and previous years of efforts) that this business has an exemption from laws about price fixing and other business collusions.! Dang! It took us this long to find out! It's been like this for all our lifetime! (most of us). They make the biggest bucks --- they make the greatest profit of any USA business -- and they have and keep this exemption to fair play rules that would require fair play competition! We need to restore f

'MBA graduates led the world into recession'
    brightlight4
    by brightlight4  3-26-2009    7
If these business leaders were not able to spot the flaws in the businesses they were running, one has to look into the matter of what business and management schools had been teaching them. The schools promoted a quasi-scientific approach to business, sermonizing that everything could be nailed down in a textbook, and encouraged students to believe that running a company could be mastered by anyone. The entire private-equity industry is founded on that principle. And also, all the intellectual tools that led us into the financial meltdown were largely invented within academia. Complex models for pricing risk created the market for the options and derivatives contracts that have caused so much trouble in the past year.

No Friend To Small Business! (Hey Joe!)
    sahara
    by sahara  10-22-2008    2
At the same time that President Bush backed the $700 billion dollar Wall Street bailout, he continued to dismantle existing federal programs designed to assist American small businesses. During his two terms, President Bush has systematically dismantled each and every program established under the Small Business Act to assist American small businesses, especially those firms owned by women, minorities and veterans. President Bush's anti-small business policies began during his first week as president. The first thing he did to dismantle America's small business programs was to remove the Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA) from the President's Cabinet. Then he began to cut the SBA's budget and staffing more than any other federal agency. Since 2003, over a dozen federal investigations have been released, which have all found rampant and government-wide fraud, abuse, loopholes and a blatant lack of proper oversight in federal small business contracting program.

Declining competition in the seed business could lead to price hikes that ripple out to every family's dinner table. That's because the corn flakes you had for breakfast, soda you drank at lunch and beef stew you ate for dinner likely were produced from crops grown with Monsanto's patented genes. Monsanto's methods are spelled out in a series of confidential commercial licensing agreements obtained by the AP. The contracts, as long as 30 pages, include basic terms for the selling of engineered crops resistant to Monsanto's Roundup herbicide, along with shorter supplementary agreements that address new Monsanto traits or other contract amendments.

“Russ Carnahan voted to … close us and other … small business”
    merrie
    by merrie  7-7-2009    1
David McArthur, vice president of the 52-year-old family operation, a Gateway City institution, is one of a growing number of business owners and taxpayers nationwide who are mobilizing against the so-called cap-and-trade bill . . . "We make (our product) with electricity, we bake it with gas, we refrigerate and freeze it with electricity and we distribute it with gas and oil," said McArthur, who said he worries that high prices could cost his company up to $15,000 a year in an industry with a very tight margin for profit. The legislation requires that the country reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 17 percent by 2020. Big energy plants and producers would have a cap on emissions like carbon dioxide, but could purchase "credits" from other companies that have met their reduction goals. The Obama administration says it will pump hundreds of billions of dollars into the economy. "Russ Carnahan voted to ... close us and other ... small business."

I myself don't like the tone the media taking unless i myself am taking it wrong. Seems like they are trying to say this girl could of escaped anytime she wanted to. They forget one thing. she was 11 when kidnapped. grew up rest of years brainwashed and bonded with by the scumbags. Mind control from age 11 is easily obtained probably using boot camp tactics at first. I remember parris island where after a few weeks i would give the world for just a kind word from my drill instructor. So imagine how much more would be on an 11 year old girl.

    The Climate-Industrial Complex
    merrie

invested in products that a climate-scared world would buy. Some businesses see nothing but profits in the green movement. The world's largest wind-turbine manufacturer, Copenhagen Climate Council member Vestas, urges governments to invest heavily in the wind market. It sponsors CNN's "Climate in Peril" segment, increasing support for policies that would increase Vestas's earnings. A fellow council member, Mr. Gore's green investment firm Generation Investment Management, warns of a significant risk to the U.S. economy unless a price is quickly placed on carbon. U.S. companies and interest groups involved with climate change hired 2,430 lobbyists just last year, up 300% from five years ago. Fifty of the biggest U.S. electric utilities -- including Duke -- spent $51 million on lobbyists in just six months. The World Business Summit will hear from "science and public policy leaders" seemingly selected for their scary views of global warming.
