Merry Clipsmas! Austin's favorite Eggnog Recipe!
    ouyangwulong
    by ouyangwulong  12-22-2007    14
T'wil soon be Clipsmas, and t'is the season for reflective discussion, contemplative reading, somewhere between the smoky fire and icy window, preferably sinking into a soft worn-out arm chair. And what could be better for contemplative discussion than heart-stopping quantities of alcohol and heavy cream? Because I can't physically share a glass with you all, but love everyone none the less, in the esprit de Clipsmass, here's my favorite Eggnog Recipe, inaugurating my food blog! Please drink responsibly. Friends don't let friend drink and clip!

What Your Choice of Words Reveals about You
    abailart
    by abailart  8-23-2009    1
Interesting. Quite short article but difficult to encapsulate in a clip. The article refers mainly to political rhetoric and to observing medicalised patients over time. It does not factor in emotional lability which often removes the degree of conscious control over expression.

Texas cop uses Taser on 72-year-old great grandmother

Ooh, her use of profanity made him fear for his safety. What is this guy a freaking nancy-boy? I’ll bet he let a lot of drivers go by and chose her because she looked ‘safe’. Part of the responsibility for so many people basically blatantly ignoring speed limit signs falls on the cops themselves. They randomly enforce speed limits. I have witnessed speeders driving past police officers who do nothing. I have witnessed police officers driving over the speed limit and I can truthfully say there was no apparent reason for them to do so, because further down the road I would again see them driving along with the crowd. The lackadaisical enforcement gives drivers a false sense that they will not be ticketed and then along comes an officer who may have been bored or pushed by his municipality to raise money. They need to be serious about enforcement or continue to allow drivers to do whatever they please, just as they have for quite some time now.

Cooking With My Punk Ass Little Sister...

    by carrerinyes  7-16-2008    13
Then she left home and became a woman while I married a cattle rancher and said goodbye, essentially forever, to my beloved repertoire of gourmet cuisine. Betsy graduated from college, lived in various big cities, and now resides in Austin, Texas with her tech-nerd husband, Matt, where she spends her days cooking all the food snob dishes I so unselfishly taught her to make so many years ago. And she calls me as she’s eating them and makes me cry real tears. Then I go fry up another pork chop and get over myself. Come along with Betsy and me as we make one of our favorites: Penne a la Betsy, as I like to call it. It’s simple, flavorful, and whomever you make it for will pledge their eternal admiration and support for you. And they’ll kiss your big toe.The Cast of Characters: Shrimp, Penne (or other short pasta), butter, olive oil, onion, garlic, tomato sauce, heavy cream, parsley, basil, salt, and pepper. Brace yourselves, people. Your life’s about the change for the better. And y

It could be worse rarely seems like much consolation, but one example of the difference the back adaptations, is that half way through a pregnancy the weight can shift to be carried by the back in the same way a man can't carry a beer gut of the same weight (Luckily beer is reputed to be an excellent remedy for back ache-either you stop feeling any pain, or you have to lie down and take some weight off.)

Great Irish Famine. "Stabalising at half the level prior to the faminee"
    righthand
    by righthand  7-25-2007    3
When Ireland experienced a famine in 1782-83, ports were closed to keep Irish-grown food in Ireland to feed the Irish. Local food prices promptly dropped. Merchants lobbied against the export ban, but government in the 1780s overrode their protests; that export ban did not happen in the 1840s. Cecil Woodham-Smith, an authority on the Irish Famine, wrote in The Great Hunger; Ireland 1845-1849 that, "...no issue has provoked so much anger or so embittered relations between the two countries (England and Ireland) as the indisputable fact that huge quantities of food were exported from Ireland to England throughout the period when the people of Ireland were dying of starvation." Ireland remained a net exporter of food throughout most of the five-year famine. Irish exports of calves, livestock (except pigs), bacon and ham actually increased during the famine. The food was shipped under guard from the most famine-stricken parts of Ireland. The Quakers are the only protestant religio
