Personally I think it is quite sad in this day and age that humans,,,,,,the owners of the future...(F**K YEAH pallays)....still cant come to grips with the un necessary suffering they are causing.....for MONEY and POWER. Mmmmm......think about it DUDES.

There is a certain ammount of machismo that allows people like pallavs to believe saying F**K YEAH is......cool. When I was a kid, all our Catholic school field trips started out with prayers to Jesus, St. Christopher (now demoted to legend) and St. Patrick. In this case, the form differs but the function is the same.

In the classical world, the ritual participants ate the carcasses - the gods were only interested in the ephemeral aspects of the sacrifice, as represented by the smoke and aroma. Thus there was both a spiritual and physical feast. In the bible, the entire animal was consumed by the fire.

I remember Indiana Jones jumping out of an airplane, in the Himalayas, and doing some extreme toboggoning on an inflatable raft. I'm sure the flight would have been been an airline somewhere around Nepal. Trouble was he was all out of goats. Then guess what. Bang, straight into Kali's headquarters. He was in luck.They'd just sacrificed someone, so he had to beat the bad guys before the next one was scheduled. I don't thing he ever found a goat. It just occured to me. If you sacrifice a goat,how can you tell if it workred? It shouldn't be hard to find out if it didn't work.

Hardcore vegetarians can be the most obnoxious proselytizers - right up there with (maybe even worse than) radical evangelists and militant atheists. I have a metabolic deficiency that prevents my body from processing a couple of amino acids that are abundant in most vegetables. Even if I wanted to, I could never pursue a meatless regimen.

I am indeed serious about my ideals, but do not preach vegetarianism. You know its funny this whole pro-animal slaughter/meat eating versus vegetarianism/save the animals argument going here - because actually in Nepal its mostly the people who believe in animal sacrificing that remain vegetarians and refuse to eat meat, where the people like Tibeto-Burmans (i.e. Sherpas, Newars, etc) who eat red meat (yak, cow, water buffalo) are actually appalled by the animal sacrificing.

Yes marszal you are right....we humans do indeed seem to be a bit of a puzzle sometimes.

I suppose this thing could go on for donkey's or even goatie's years. The only point I was trying to make was that it's about time we curtailed suffering as 'responsible sensible?? beings.' I also know peope can and will change. I hope the goat sacrificing, the bear baiting, the dog fighting and the people killing will one day end. It only exists because we all let it. Covi - Note that I did not make sweeping generalizations about any of those groups. I clearly used qualifiers to indicate only those people on the extreme fringes of those groups. I have had vegetarians call me a "monster" and worse for not eliminating animals from my diet; I frequently see atheists delare, in print, that everyone who follows a religion is "deluded" (and no, I am not prepared to give complete citations for these examples - most people who post here have seen the kinds of things I mean (oops - another generalization - can you forgive me?))

You sound just like the people who whine about persecution every time someone says something critical about their particular religious...

Re last comment and my final one on the subject.....hopefully. In NO WAY was I suggesting or hoping that people should experience this. It was merely my way of saying that it is such a horrible thing even to imagine happening to you/me.......why then should we allow it or condone it or make lite of it when it DOES happen to animals that can not even defend themselves......yet as meat eaters.....'God' worshipers......airline owners.... it is done it every day? Almighty God says that "Only way you could get right to kill, even for the purpose of eating meat, is when you are able to create the same life" In reality for any purpose to kill any life does not exist in relationship with Almighty God. Hello again. You of course are both right to a certain extent......as am I to a certain extent. Wiccantexan....you have learnt what we are from experience and from advice. I have been vegetarian for over 30 years. I cycled 110 miles recently......., I was told humans are this.....humans are that. Best thing to do is to ask medical advice and see how you PERSONALLY will be health wise if you give up your devourable friends.....should you wish to. Dont forget that NECESSITY USED TO BE a great decider in what we did. I know after 30 odd years of being healthy.......I dont need to eat 'cabrito' and can almost certainly gaurantee I have eaten food tasting better than my goatee friends.

Ah, see that's where we're misunderstanding one another. I AM prepared to give my life, and I most definitely will at some point. I chose to be as nature intended, an omnivore, because it's the healthiest choice for my body type. I choose to do so as humanely as possible, which is why I strive to buy kosher, because the animal does not suffer.

I also choose to remember that my vegetables are harvested to the detriment of multiple small animals who are maimed, killed and/or driven from their homes by harvesting machines. It stands to reason that I remember that nothing that I need to live is without sacrifice by another.

You said it right at the beginning, "Death is inevitable." Kill animals, kill plant-life, kill animals while harvesting plants, it's inevitable. In order to live one WILL kill; you, me, anyone. The only choice as an alternative to killing is to die oneself. I prefer to choose the former and remain living.

As I mentioned before, you can have the perspective that even though you kill to live, you will also die so that others may live. We are all part of the greater scheme of things; the great cycle of life and death. We all have to deal with this sad truth in our own way, but to believe that you alone, of all the creatures on this planet do not kill, then you are simply delusional.

boniface I am assuming if you were worried about safe travel.....you would not sacrifice goats....monkeys.....elephants.......worms or whatever. You would either choose not to travel....or make sure that the airline was following correct safety procedure and bring it to others attention if you thought it wasn't. I am assuming you would do this because you would think that this was the most logical and sensible way to go.....as goat sacrifice has not yet been proven to be a method of ensuring or at least assisting safe public transport. You may not do it for animal welfare reasons, but hopefully you would. If you DONT have to kill......if...

Well I did think the conversation was about 'un necessary killing.' With that thought in place and with a little....(only a little) knowledge of the farming industry I can see that other small creatures apart from insects may get killed, but those creatures are not held captive by humans who have the fate decided of their captive farmed animal friends.....who will have no choice, but to end up as some human dinner. Think in a slightly different direction.........it takes several pounds of grain to produce one pound of meat. How many humans are going unfed because of this way of thinking ??
I have to eat. I choose to eat that which I feel has less 'feeling' than I feel I as a human...

As parting querstions on this issue I would ask you that if you knew or even suspected that the animals that are slaughtered regularly for human consumption could feel the same fear and suffering that you or another human can, would you seriousely think it right for this to happen (on the understanding that alternatives are available.....and on the understanding that alternatives were not detrimental to ones well being?). If more food could be produced in the form of grains pulses and vegetables that could be fed directly to humans rather than to animals which we would then slaughter.....is this not a good thing?
