man, the good news about dark chocolate never ends. this makes me a very happy person, i absolutely love dark chocolate and since the good news about it started coming out I've been somewhat of a connaisseur. Anybody care to share there favorites? I'm a huge fan of Dove because it's incredibly smooth but the cocao content isn't quite up to par. Hershey's Extra Dark, which has been around forever, is probably my favorite. Though Hershey's also makes some incredible dark chocolate mint squares that I've been buying as an after dinner mint. yummy!
Ummm, can that dark chocolate be incorporated into something like, oh, I don't know, brownies maybe? I make a really good batch of fudgy brownies. And I've now been converted to a brownie-edge fan.
Hull York Medical School boffins should take some dark chocolate and wake up to themselves. "Surprising" results, in this case, come from a surprising lack of everyday knowledge. Dark chocolate (cocoa bean, remember?) contains, quite naturally, caffeine and other enlivening elements.
So I splurged on a few I haven't tried before and the results are mixed. I tried a Lindt 80% cacao and though you could tell it was extremely high quality, it was way to bitter, though the aftertaste was quite nice. Then I tried Ghirardelli Mint Bliss and it was good but it pales in comparison to the equivalent Hersheys Extra Dark Mint. It's funny though, because I remember hearing quite some time ago one of these healthy chocolate studies was funded by Mars. This article doesn't state where the funding came from, but if you google around for other articles you can see a potential conflict of interest.
Interestingly enough, you can't get these benefits from milk chocolate because of the higher fat and sugar content. On my last visit to 7-11 I saw about 6 dark chocolate versions of popular candy bars. Is this a marketing scheme?
