Thanks Deb, to me swearing is equally important a means of expression as images of the human body are to art. Yes, some people may find it offensive / upsetting, but they are both essential forms of articulation.
That could just be bollocks though.

This is nuts!! Swearing never got you anywhere in life, it lowers the others opinions of you and makes you hostile
If you can't say the same thing with acceptable words, you are an idiot and uneducated. This is just another ploy to break down the morals of this country.

Your mother "threatened" to wash your mouth out with soap? H***, mine actually did.

Then they threatened to cut our f'ing tongues off like they did in Armenia. (Really)

Oh for the good old days

Swearing at many workplaces will get ya fired. So bad idea. Find another way to motivate the troops.

Actually, swearing does serve a function other than uniting the troops. It blows off steam, releases tension, and takes the edge off anger. If throttling the s.o.b. who insulted you or backed into your car or whatever is not an option, letting out with a few swear words may be the only viable means of saving yourself from the effects of, say, road rage. Somehow, "Oh, fudge!" just doesn't cut it! There is just too much adrenalin raging through the body for that! The fact that these words are "forbidden" in "polite society" gives them a power other words lack.

Some work places like those full of biggits use taboo language to build solidarity and raise morale. Unfortunately this short cut to doing the real work of being a leader is usually at the expense of someone else's career and health.

Yes, but what if you work at home?

If you work at home, I should think that you would have much less frustration or anger to deal with! You wouldn't need to swear.

Just make sure you won't swear in front of the person you're addressing to. lol... otherwise you're FIRED!!!
Well, anyway that's a pretty interesting study. At least it helps.

@Sookie57, I agree there's a time and a place for swearing, and politeness is something I regard higher than many other qualities.
I won't engage in debate about swearing right / wrong because we may as well discuss who's right / wrong about their favourite colour, because to me swearing is a vital part of language and expression. I am capable of expressing myself without profanity, but it's just that I choose to swear sometimes.
I do however, respect (I really do mean respect too) that it is your choice not to swear.

Yes, but what if you work at home?
This is when you go in the bathroom and mouth every swear in the english language silently while jumping up and down and pointing at the mirror
I've got kids.

F**king right. To argue otherwise would be pure bollocks!
