The social benefits of an anti-fear drug are huge, but I also wonder about its abuses... what if we forced soldiers in the field to take it? -David M. Ewalt

Fear is the basis of our self-preservation drive. Fear is a good thing for most of us. Fear drives us to be creative and intelligent. Without fear our species will destroy itself.

I agree. While there are definitely some very positive potential uses for a drug like this, the extent to which we are medicating away many of the basic emotions of being human kind of freaks me out.

Me too, Eric.

People never need feel any negative emotion any more. There goes all the good poetry and mixed cds.

Seriously, how can good feel "good" anymore when you have no comparison?

Without duality nothing exists. No freedom of choice. No need to change one's thinking/raise one's consciousness. No thank you.

I agree with skwirl generally. However, too much fear (irrational fear) can destroy us as well. The line is to recognize with logic and common sense the rational threats and act accordingly. Acting out of fear can be devastating. Perhaps this pill would not destroy our ability to think and comprehend threats, rather helpus to focus our attention in a more rational manner.

I agree with allenmarkowski & willhelm.. Blocking essential emotions won't make things natural as they used to (unless treating some disease).
But I guess more or less, it will follow the same path of emotion related meds like anidepressants & analgesics. Maybe same also for their abuse, Gee!.

I would shy away from an attempt to intentionally block ANY of our natural instincts.
I can easily see an increase in violent crime here!

We already have folks out there with no sense of fear, or guilt.
We usually label them as psychotic!
