Ha ha. But it's even more impressive than that. It's eight *million* years.

I wonder what the survivability of such bacteria is in the current environment. Organisms usually have to evolve to survive.

It means that as icebergs melt, Human kind is going to face a new era of unknown deadly viruses and deseases!

Aren't you afraid? It's terrible!

They were dormant - of course they didn't evolve. Please read before commenting, rather than displaying knee-jerk reactions based on your infantile prejudices.

Yes, music hunter is right - we're all DOOOMED! (yes, that's dooomed with three "o"s which is even worse than just being doomed, or dooped, or duped...) Global warming is real and we can't stop it now, even if we all crank our AC's with the windows open, AND leave the fridge door ajar. If the temperature keeps rising like it is it'll be 212 degrees in February 2107, when steamed crab will no longer be a delicacy. I know this is true because it's the same process that makes my deck hotter and hotter all afternoon as the sun shines on it - by midnight you can fry bacon it.
So there, now that THAT's irrefutable, here's what will happen - the poles melt (both the ones at the ends of the e...

Any organism that old will found our new world a poisoned chalice to survive on.

Global warming my ar$e! It's all crap! There's historical evidence that shows that warmings like this happened throughout history! Also, the earth is only 6000 yrs old not millions & billions as evolution makes it out to be.
It's all just propaganda to make everyone believe in something universal.

Is Forbes acquiring Clipmarks?
egoldstein
by egoldstein  8-7-2007    48
VentureBeat just ran a story stating that Forbes has acquired Clipmarks. I wanted to quickly fill everyone in on what's going on. First, this article is a bit premature. We have not been acquired by Forbes. However, for the past few months we have been meeting with people at all levels of Forbes and the excitement and support they have shown for what we're creating has been very meaningful to us. As many of you have probably seen already, a number of their writers are already clipping and our technology has been integrated on forbes.com. For quite a while, we have been in talks with various parties about helping to financially support clipmarks. However, we hadn't yet found the right "partner" to help us complete this journey. A partner who fully understands our vision for making news and information more portable and interactive than ever before. Therefore, we just kept looking. Continued...

Girls entering puberty by the age of six - but are drugs the answer?
michellezm
by michellezm  8-7-2007    10
"Early puberty has even been linked to watching too much television. A few years ago, Italian scientists found that children who watched three hours a day produced less of the sleep hormone melatonin - low levels of the hormone play an important role in the timing of puberty. But perhaps more worrying is the theory that it's exposure to environmental chemicals which is causing the drop in the age of puberty. These chemicals mimic the effect of hormones, disrupting the normal timing of sexual maturing. Whatever the cause, growing numbers of children are being deprived of childhood and are turning, physically, into mini-adults at an increasingly young age. But without the emotional maturity to deal with these changes, they are vulnerable to exploitation. In Britain, it is now estimated that up to at least one in six children under ten is affected. Indeed, there is a belief that schoolgirls as young as six are entering puberty".
