Cashier Attacks Deaf Man for Not Talking
    CrazyRedHead
    by CrazyRedHead  10-5-2007    5
"Upon further investigation, it appeared the suspect became frustrated when the victim wouldn't respond or acknowledge his attempts to converse," Sullivan said. "He became outraged and struck the victim in an unwarranted attack." The store's surveillance tape was erased or taped over before the officers got there.

The economics of modernity (one of my favorite clips ever)
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  7-23-2009    9
I really love this clip. Speaks to the rat race so many of us live in...trying to make enough money to buy ipods, laptops, cars, clothing, jewelry and all sorts of other things that we don't necessarily need and that don't truly make us happy. The irony is that the toll it takes on us is probably damaging to our well being, both physically and emotionally.

Chinese Factory Worker Can't Believe The Shit He Makes For Americans
    papananook
    by papananook  3-3-2008    8
"Sometimes, an item the factory produces resembles nothing I've ever seen," Chen said. "One time, we made something that looked like a ladle, but it had holes in its cup and a handle that bent down 90 degrees. The foreman told us that it was a soda-can holder for an automobile. If you are lucky enough to own a car, sit back and enjoy the journey. Save the soda beverage for later." Chen added: "A cup holder is not a necessary thing to own." Chen expressed similar confusion over the tens of thousands of pineapple corers, plastic eyeshades, toothpick dispensers, and dog pull-toys that he has helped manufacture. "Why the demand for so many kitchen gadgets?" Chen said. "I can understand having a good wok, a rice cooker, a tea kettle, a hot plate, some utensils, good china, a teapot with a strainer, and maybe a thermos. But all these extra things—where do the Americans put them? How many times will you use a taco-shell holder? 'Oh, I really need this silverware-drawer sorter or I wi

We under-estimate the power of simple technologies. I think it was Einstein who said, "God always takes the simplest way." I am not a "goddy" or a "goody" being but there is an element of truth about this statement in relation to this particular clip which I really like and which also applies to life. Often times the simplest of solutions are the best, yet we miss them in the fact that we have been conditioned to believe that life is complex and so we look for complex solutions because we constantly perceive complex problems. It is a self-perpetuating myth.

    Window of Possibility
    invictus

TAKE YOURSELF OUT TO A FIELD some evening after everyone else is asleep. Listen to the migrant birds whisking past in the dark; listen to the creaking and settling of the world. Think about the teeming, microscopic worlds beneath your shoes—the continents of soil, the galaxies of bacteria. Then lift your face up. The night sky is the coolest Advent calendar imaginable: it is composed of an infinite number of doors. Open one and find ten thousand galaxies hiding behind it, streaming away at hundreds of miles per second. Open another, and another. You gaze up into history; you stare into the limits of your own understanding. The past flies toward you at the speed of light. Why are you here? Why are the stars there? Is it even remotely possible that our one, tiny, eggshell world is the only one encrusted with life?

I've never found a ready-made peanut butter cookie that tasted peanut-y enough. I always have to make my own to get the peanut-loving goodness. These look worth trying. Not too many ingredients, not too many cookies. Plus, I almost always have these ingredients hanging around. (except when I don't have an egg, curses!)
