They have hand-held the original, and confirmed its validity with the State of Hawaii. Two more articles are cited in the clip. The radical right's refusal to admit the obvious here is becoming more and more like simple disloyalty.

The City of London Chief Superintendent, Kevin Hurley, praised Scientology for "raising the spiritual wealth of society" during the opening of its headquarters in 2006. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anonymous_(group)

1 in 3 Female Recruits RAPED by fellow Soldiers in "this man's army"
    righthand
    by righthand  7-29-2007    49
There is a deeper problem of widespread abuse and a system that protects the criminals. Unfortunately, the abuse in the recruitment system is prescient of military service, where a third of women who serve will be raped by fellow soldiers. It's high time that girls courted by military recruiters are kept out of harm's way here at home. Compare this with highly publicized abuse cases involving Catholic priests. Recruiters given administrative punishment do not. Ironically, priests aren't fixtures in most public schools but military recruiters are. Recruiters have unprecedented access to girls thanks to the No Child Left Behind Act which demands that public schools turn over student contact data to military recruiters so they can "work their market." The majority of school districts in the country have relaxed rules that allow recruiters to come and go at will. So more young people have personal and sustained contact with recruiters. by Former Army Specialist Aimee Allison

The Question of Freedom at the Open Video Conference
    wildcat
    by wildcat  7-14-2009    1
"Benkler argued that Open Video was indicative of an “open democracy for everyone, everywhere, all the time.” Open Video Culture, he said, would usher in the possibility for “anyone to express oneself, be creative and innovative.” Benkler also claimed that because “millions of people are now looking at problems” we will thus find millions of, “distributed solutions.” In this “free” culture, he continued, “human creativity would move to the core.” Aside from the seemingly naïve conflation of terms, exactly which society, which “everyone,” and which economic system did Benkler have in mind?" A very important read

The American Public is Sick of Bush's False Bravado
    zasel
    by zasel  5-15-2007
The public wants Bush to be accountable and to hold the Iraqi government accountable. They are tired of having the president permit more of our brave service people killed or maimed, and our treasury being depleted indefinitely while the Iraqi government does nothing to reach any benchmarks, and actually plan to go on vacation for two months as our soldiers continue to bleed and die in the stinking heat of Baghdad and the rest of Iraq, I really hope the public stands firm and strong, and insists that the congress force a meaningful set of benchmarks with real consequences for the Iraqi government failing to meet them. They should also tell them that if the Iraqi government takes the summer off, so are our troops. They need the rest far more than the politicians do.

Man sentenced after leaving water bottles for immigrants
    disenchantedcitizen
    by disenchantedcitizen  8-14-2009
They charged him with littering!? This is what they come up with? The attorneys all know this is bogus. The real reason he was arrested is because they consider him an enemy of the state, for being a humanitarian. Because, as everybody knows, it is an “obvious conclusion that the defendant and No More Deaths wish to aid illegal aliens in their entry attempt”. It couldn’t possibly be that they don’t want to see humans die in the desert for lack of water, no, it must be a dastardly and criminal attack against US policy. Then they back up their ridiculous ‘reasoning’ with this statement “animals could eat the plastic and others could get feet or antlers caught on the bottles”. Incredible. Yes folks, we now have proof that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have more concern for the welfare of animals than they do for humans. Way to tow the party line you government robots.

Former Secret Service Tell-All: Jimmy Carter a Fake, Phony, Liar
    clip-on-tie
    by clip-on-tie  10-15-2009    2
Not surprising to me, but Reagan and Bush got the best reviews...the nicest. Read it and weep: http://www.northstarnational.com/2009/10/14/secret-service-agent-opens-window-private-lives-presidents/ Carter “didn’t want the police officers and agents looking at him or speaking to him when he went to the office,” explained an assistant White House usher. “The only time I saw a smile on Carter’s face was when the cameras were going,” one former agent told Kessler. After his presidency, Kessler reports that when Carter would stay at a townhouse maintained for former presidents in D.C., he would take down pictures of other presidents and put up more pictures of himself! “The Carters were the biggest liars in the world,” one agent told Kessler of the Carter era. Not surprising, liberals say they're for the common man; in an episode of Fringe maybe.

The Real Antartic Explorer Hero: Tom Crean

    by righthand  12-31-2007    20
"Crean is portrayed, telling of his life and adventures, in a one-man play titled Tom Crean, Antarctic Explorer, written and performed by Aidan Dooley. The play premièred in New York in 2003, and has toured around the world, including a run Off-Broadway in the summer of 2007 at New York's Irish Repertory Theatre." "Crean is commemorated in at least two place names: Mount Crean (2550 m) in Victoria Land, and the Crean Glacier on South Georgia. He is also remembered in the 2001 TG4 Documentary 'Ciarraíoch san Oighir' (A Kerryman in the Ice)." "Crean saw service in the WW1, and retired from the navy in 1920. He married and opened up a small pub called "The South Pole Inn." Throughout his life, Crean remained an extremely modest man. When he returned to Kerry, he put all of his medals away and never again spoke about his experiences in the Antarctic" These medals did cause him some grief when Black&Tans turned over his public house. They uncovered them and concluded he'd stolen

Cuil: Search engine to ravel Google Launches
    shandora
    by shandora  7-29-2008    4
For one, Cuil has an impressive pedigree with its three founders: Tom Costello of IBM's WebFountain project, plus Anna Patterson and Russell Power of Google's TeraGoogle project, Google's massive search index. Cuil also counts former AltaVista founder Louis Monier -- who later went to eBay and then Google -- as part of the team. These people know search. In particular, they know on-the-firing line, heavy duty, industrial strength search. Not only that, they're unleashing what appears to be a comprehensive service that anyone can use. Indeed, Google already did a blog post in reaction to Cuil and its size claims on Friday, before Cuil even launched or those claims became public. If Google's paying that much attention, then anyone should.
