Ten cognitive distortions that mess you up
    enbar
    by enbar  1-21-2007    11
David Burns is a pioneer in popularizing the cognitive-behavioral approach to mood therapy developed by Aaron Beck. As someone who has struggled on and off with crippling depression my whole life, I have found this list of "cognitive distortions" pretty useful in reframing certain elements of my thinking.

Combine Mine and Board to create "My Exchange"
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  4-26-2006    30
Ok, this one is already in the works, but i wanted to share the concept with everyone and get your feedback before we get too far into it. The idea is that consolidating the two environments into one will provide each of us with greater personalization and control of our experience on the site. Want to find one of your clipmarks...go to your exchange. Want to find a clipmark you popped...go to your exchange Want to find a clipmark you commented on...go to your exchange Want to check out one of your collections...go to your exchange Want to follow a clipper...add him/her to your exchange Want to collect a clipmark...add it to your exchange That last one is the biggie. Since we're going to simultaneously release the ability to collect other people's public clipmarks, we think it's necessary that all your stuff be available in one customizable place... this place will be your exchange!

News Values: how the news is constructed

Nice, concise wiki article on the basic factors that affect editorial construction of the news. Many of these factors reflect less the world than the psychological and ideological tendencies of the readership/audience.

    hjharris

Andrew Keen argues that we need an elite, without it we are doomed ! Ummm, the calling for an elite, "requiring an authoritative voice",I say, be careful what you wish for. (did not someone try it, leading to WW2) The computer is the instrument of the modern state, it is also the tool for freedom from the dictator.

Would You Park This Car In A Tow Zone?
    merrie
    by merrie  7-31-2008    2
And yes, it really was parked in a tow zone Other additions to Ad Personam include a new shade of light blue, Blu Cepheus, inspired by the transparency of polar ice with the same iridescent qualities as the Marrone Apus matte paint which presents a more primary blue in sunlight. For the interior, a new brown Alcantara known as Marrone Gaia is added. Vultumna is an Italian leather from the Tuscany region and in keeping with Tuscany’s leather tanning tradition the leather is untreated, inspired by the natural leather of horse saddles and the color will change over time. http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/overview.aspx?year=2008&make=Lamborghini&model=Murcielago%20LP640&vv=600

ETech 2006: Danah Boyd and G/localization
    adamc
    by adamc  3-8-2006    2
Fascinating presentation by Danah Boyd of the UC Berkeley School of Information. She's studying MySpace and has significant insights into the make up of online communities. One thing to think about: "accidental interactions" and how it relates to Clipmarks -- I love the different (sometimes random) ways I connect with other clippers. She also spoke about Craigslist/Flickr/MySpace and their evolution. All three had/have... * passionate designers and users * organic growth * public personalities * an emergent culture Also... Designing through Embeddedness: 1. Passion is EVERYTHING 2. Protect from burn-out 3. Diversify your staff 4. Enable and empower, don't control 5. Do not overdesign! 6. Integrate designers and customer support 7. Stay engaged with the community 8. Document cultural evolution Danah's site: http://www.zephoria.org/t
