If YOU are one of them . . CONGRATULATIONS! You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good…… And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.

Drug tries to offset 10,000 years of evolution
    Silkweaver
    by Silkweaver  8-6-2008
Gene therapies, expected some time between 2015 and 2020, promise to correct this genetic problem caused by nature, but many obese people do not want to wait. They are hoping that Nastech’s new nasal spray can provide a solution now. Within 20 to 35 minutes after taking a whiff, this new drug moves quickly through the nasal lining and into the bloodstream, sending a message to the brain that our tummy is full. So far the drug has had no negative side effects. PYY is undergoing clinical trials now, and is expected to be in drug stores by 2009 or 2010. Obesity is the 2nd leading cause of preventable death in America, so this drug offers a great chance for more people to improve their health and get ready to enjoy our “magical future”.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever! We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL! If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS! Ah, the good ole days.

    Eat less, Remember more

Though some of the effects are clearly physiological, i think it also the fact that eating less interferes with the need for immediate full satisfaction. That gap might as well be utilized in better ways (such as in this context improving memory). No wonder that one of the best rock songs is dubbed 'i can't get no satisfaction'... ;-)

    Almonds boost weight loss
    Fast T friend
    by Fast T friend  7-20-2008
According to Wien, “The weight-loss benefits of eating almonds came as something of a surprise, since the study was originally designed to evaluate the cholesterol-lowering effects of almonds. As it turned out, the dieters who ate almonds lost more weight than would be expected if they were taking prescription diet pills.”

86 Percent Of Americans Could Be Overweight Or Obese By 2030
    Mohir
    by Mohir  7-29-2008    1
“The health care costs attributable to obesity and overweight are expected to more than double every decade. This would account for 15 to 17 percent of total health care costs spent,” Wang says. “Due to the assumptions we made and the limitations of the available data, these figures are likely an underestimation of the true financial impact.”

If you still believe drugs should be illegal,
    swampfoxz
    by swampfoxz  12-24-2007    5
If you still believe drugs should be illegal, answer this question... Why do you believe it is good policy to punish me--and 20 million adult Americans like me--because I choose to use marijuana in the privacy of my own home? Who benefits from this policy and how do they benefit? * Over 300,000 nonviolent people lose their freedom to prison/jail. * Thousands of murders, assaults, and robberies caused by drug crimes. * $20 billion/year in law enforcement costs. * $10 billion/year in lost tax revenue (similar to alcohol tax). * $5 billion/year in property losses due to drug-related crimes. * $50 billion/year and 500,000 jobs lost because of no hemp industry. Total cost = $85 billion/year = $500 per taxpayer every year!

Rubens was right? Overweight People Live Longer?
    ouyangwulong
    by ouyangwulong  11-7-2007    9
Not dying today basically just means you'll die later. (Citation: The Onion, Our Dumb Century: US Mortality Rate Holding Steady at 100%) So I would be really interested in seeing how they crunch the numbers on "Death Rates." How they account for things like age and inevitability. For instance, aren't most really old people under-weight? As life goes on, most of the people I've seen either bloat up (Marlon Brando) or wither away (George Burns) so it would seem unlikely that the people who are at the time in their life where dying is a reality might be merely overweight. What we need is statistics tracking death rates based on a person's weight at a give age, such as 15, 25 or 45, that way we can see how life-long weight may affect a person's life expectancy. Seems like this is more skewing of the numbers to try to convince Americans they can have their cake and eat a lot of it too. On the other hand, it can't hurt to be jolly!

Why is obesity rampant among the poor?
    jklugman
    by jklugman  4-24-2007    16
Compared with a bunch of carrots, a package of Twinkies, ... is a highly complicated, high-tech piece of manufacture, involving no fewer than 39 ingredients, many themselves elaborately manufactured, as well as the packaging and a hefty marketing budget. So how can the supermarket possibly sell a pair of these synthetic cream-filled pseudocakes for less than a bunch of roots? For the answer, you need look no farther than the farm bill. ....in the case of the carrot and the Twinkie, the farm bill as currently written offers a lot more support to the cake than to the root. Like most processed foods, the Twinkie is basically a clever arrangement of carbohydrates and fats teased out of corn, soybeans and wheat — ...crops that the farm bill supports, to the tune of some $25 billion a year.
