    The Bomb: First Impressions
    Kore7
    by Kore7  8-21-2006    6
Good article about the American public's response to waking up on August 6, 1945 to discover out-of-the-blue that "they possessed the most powerful weapon in the history of war." In the early days after the attack, only a few scattered voices objected. Most of them were religious. The Vatican and Catholic newspapers promptly denounced nuclear weapons. One minister in New York said, “Our savage generation cannot be trusted” and called the nuclear program “a triumph of research, but also a superb symbol for the Age of Efficient Chaos.”

Man Killed Is A Hero In The Shotgun Attack In Tennessee Church
    merrie
    by merrie  7-27-2008    2
Police had cordoned off the church with yellow and red tape, and were taking statements and collecting video cameras from church members who were taping the performance. Owen said the FBI also was assisting in the investigation. The church's minister was on vacation in western North Carolina at the time of the shooting but returned Sunday afternoon. "We've been touched by a horrible act of violence. We are in a process of healing and we ask everyone for your prayers," the Rev. Chris Buice said in a statement outside the church. The Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church is a community that meets to worship and work together for social change, according to the church's Web site. Since the 1950's, the congregation has worked for desegregation, racial harmony, fair wages, women's rights and gay rights, according to the Web site. The congregation also has provided sanctuary for political refugees, fed the homeless and founded a chapter of the ACLU.

Once Again, Religious Fundamentalists Bring Harm in the Name of God.
    zasel
    by zasel  4-30-2007
Religious fundamentalists, this time of the Jewish faith, set off a pipe bomb in Jerusalem to protest the annual gay pride march. When will religious people begin to realize what hypocrites they are by inflicting harm on innocent people in the name of their God? Or are they just so blind to their own ignorance and intolerance that they cannot see the discrepancy?

North Korea To Drop Gay Nuclear Bomb On USA

Many women are jumping into bed with girlfriends, just to get used to the idea of being lesbian. A bizarre consequence of the Gay Nuke is that it turns gay people straight. Many thousands of gays have enlisted in the military in the last few weeks. Thousands of gays have also offered to die as suicide bombers against the Gay Nuke. No one wants The Unthinkable to happen!

93-Year-Old Fled Hiroshima To His Home In Nagasaki @Ground Zero Both Times
    merrie
    by merrie  3-24-2009    1
Japanese records show dozens of people experienced the blast in Hiroshima only to be exposed to "residual radiation" in Nagasaki three days later. But Yamaguchi is the first to have been at ground zero when both explosions occurred. According to a newspaper interview Yamaguchi gave on the 60th anniversary of the end of the Pacific war, he had spent the conflict designing oil tankers for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, a wartime zaibatsu, or conglomerate, whose shipyards dominated the Nagasaki skyline. After a three-month stint at the firm's yards in Hiroshima, Yamaguchi and two colleagues, Akira Iwanaga and Kuniyoshi Sato, prepared to return to Nagasaki on 7 August, 1945. The day before, they woke early, collected their belongings and prepared for the train journey west. On the way to the station they became separated after Yamaguchi realised he had left his personal seal in the office.

I Guess Isaiah Just Wasn't Sorry Enough
    zasel
    by zasel  6-9-2007
No doubt Isaiah's f-bomb that he blasted at T.R. Knight on the Grey's Anatomy set, and then repeating at an awards show, were two examples of highly offensive and obnoxious behaviour. However, Mr. Washington really did pay a meaningful price by having to deal with enormously negative publicity etc. As a gay man, I despise the kind of hateful epithet that Washington aimed at Mr. Knight, but considering he was shown the scorn of the world, I think taking his job away is kinda overkill.

After the Bomb in Hiroshima - Photos
    speerclan
    by speerclan  8-14-2009
I can't say a whole lot more than ... WOW! This is a pretty heavy topic, but these pictures say a tremendous amount about the destruction that occurred in World War II. Mostly, I just thought you'd be interested in the photos, if you haven't seen them yet. There's nothing gory, just destruction of buildings, homes, etc. But it's clear to see what it meant for anyone who was living there. The article has some good information in it as well.
