POPSMore Americans stashing money in the Bank of Mattress The best financial advice given to me: Make sure you at least have a shotgun and plenty of ammo. If things go to pot, there’s a lot of things you’ll need to survive, but you can always get them later if you at least have a shotgun. A shotgun should be the foundation of any stable portfolio.

POPSThe First American Navy One of those ships, the United States, actually saw service on both sides during the Civil War. And the Constitution, restored to her full glory in Boston Harbor, is still a U.S. Navy ship. Her captain takes visitors below and shows them how those radical braces meet at the keel. He tells them that that structural nexus is the very point were America first joined the global community.

POPS95 year old vet - letter to Obama " We're no longer a Christian nation" " America is arrogant" - (Your wife even announced to the world,"America is mean- spirited. " Please tell her to try preaching that nonsense to 23 generations of our war dead buried all over the globe who died for no other reason than to free a whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.) I'd say shame on the both of you, but I don't think you like America, nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do, for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House.

POPSThe terrorists at Club Gitmo don't want to leave Obvious. What else more could they want? They have personal chefs, TVs, remote controls, beach volleyball, a library overlooking the ocean, scenic views, free laundry service, new prayer rugs to pray to Allah.....and they're getting the H1N1 vaccine before you. The libs want them out of Cuban Clown College as long as they're nowhere near their Manhattan penthouses or vacation spots in the Vineyard. As if splashing water on their damn faces is going to scare them off.....PUH-LEASE. Gitmo should be rebranded so that liberals wouldn’t reflexively scream “TORTURE!” every time they heard it’s name. How about "Misfired Martyrs Motel" or "Viva la Incarceracion!"?

POPSGraph: Health Insurance Company Profits But it's easier to bitch and moan about these "immoral" profits when you don't have the data right in front of you, I understand. But don't see anyone complaining about John Kerry's net worth at $168 million? - not me at least.

POPSVanity Fair: Sarah Palin Is Winning Ron Paul is a nut. I don’t know if that needs repeating, but it feels like it. When asked about Palin, he said her supporters are “more establishment, conventional Country-Club type of Republicans.” Yeah, that’s the problem with Palin: Too elitist. She’s always flying around in her fancy helicopter shooting wolves with her brand name rifles because she just feels she’s too good to walk around the ground throwing rocks at them like Ron Paul salt of the earth types. I bet her supporters have to use brand name Reynolds Wrap to make their hats instead of just buying the store brand tin foil even though both block out government mind control signals just the same. I kid, but Ron Paul does have a long career ahead of him… dancing on the street corner for nickels.

POPSWhite House: We blew it on Gitmo First of all, who counseled Team Obama against closing Gitmo? I don’t recall anything but wall to wall proclamations from Obama himself about how he was going to shut it down. So if there were advisors, they apparently knew a lot more about governing than Obama did. But the big admission is that they had no plan. When you elect a guy who has never run so much as a lemonade stand to be president, you can’t expect to have him succeed, never mind excel, at a job as complex as that of President of the United States. Of course no failure of the Obama administration would be complete without blaming George W. Bush for his part in the debacle. I am sure everyone remembers Bush and his pals all talking about closing Guantanamo Bay all year last year, right? Uh, well it slips my memory, but I am sure we have video of Bush and Obama at a press conference talking about the bipartisan plan to close Gitmo. Anybody seen that? I didn’t think so.

POPSIslam and Homophobia - The Gay Sons of Allah The reason I clipped this....well that should be obvious.... No one has the right to murder and torture another person. No one. So what is it that Christians are doing to gay people? Reading them Bible verses? Oh, hells bells, that's "emotional terrorism," I forgot.

POPSRestorer finds hidden pig in 1600's Dutch work "It's this grotesque scene, this butchered animal hanging in a barn. And quite likely this patron hired another artist to paint it over." Zwart said the restored work "looks a lot different than before, and it looks better. The restoration work also revealed information about the painting's history. It turns out that the work is a "pendant," one of a pair of paintings on a shared theme. Barn Interior's companion painting hangs in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Art history professor Henry Luttikhuizen said he is pleased the discoveries about the painting are drawing attention to Van Nuis, who died last year. "Kees would have really enjoyed seeing the painting restored. I can readily imagine him chuckling with delight at the conservator's findings," Luttikhuizen said.

POPSThe 10 mysteries of human behaviour that science can't explain Scientists have split the atom, put men on the moon and discovered the DNA of which we are made, but there are 10 key mysteries of human behaviour which they have failed to fully explain. The New Scientist magazine compiled a list of the everyday aspects of life which continue to confound the world's greatest brains, including the reasons behind kissing, blushing and even picking your nose.

POPSDevoured By Sand "They might yet stand tall, surrounded by the enemy, or might have surrendered already, lying down in defeat, waiting to be buried. Buildings, fences, houses of worship – nothing is sacred when it comes to the power of sand; sweeping across landscapes, slowly devouring everything in its path. Let us ponder what once was, and discover astonishing and surprising treasures. Shipwrecks and fishing boats seem obvious, but planes, trains and automobiles? Or a whole village? See for yourself all that has been unearthed."

POPS653 suspensions whip school into shape And guess what folks. It worked. Parents & Citizens Association president Andy Carl said behavioral problems had reversed, while respect had risen among students and their parents, who were now proud to be a part of the school. "I think you have just got to be tough with kids and I think a lot of schools aren't tough enough," Mr Carl said. Queensland Association of State School Principals president Norm Hart said discipline crackdowns using suspensions and exclusions had been highly successful in improving student behaviour. Ms Kearney said suspensions this year were down by a third. "I expect it to go down even more this semester," she said. The State Government is considering whether to grant school principals even stronger powers ito quell bad student behavior.

POPSSatellite Shot: Dubai Artificial Islands in Shape of "World" A breakwater surrounds the archipelago, and its role is obvious: outside the perimeter, especially to the northwest, the waters of the Gulf ripple with waves that would wear the artificial islands away. The bottom image shows the project on November 13, 2004, when dredging and building were just getting underway. Only one of the islands that make up “The World” appears to have achieved its full potential as a manmade tropical paradise. One of the islands in western Greenland has been landscaped, and it appears as a single green dot among its sand-covered neighbors.
