In Olbermann’s fight against death, death won and claimed his audience’s brain cells. A "fight against death." I guess that’s kind of like how sorting out your bottles and cans from the trash is “saving the world.” Note to Liberals: There are actual big problems that could use solving, like Iran getting nukes and keeping the Taliban from taking over in Afghanistan. If that’s too big for you, you can help the needy with your own time and money. I know things that don’t result in a bigger government pushing people around don’t tend to interest you, but give it your consideration, please.

Iran Prepares For War, While Obama Sleeps!

What damage has been caused by Obama’s withholding this information from the world? Yet, he praised the Islamic Republic of Iran and apologized for America’s actions in the Middle East. He held out his hand to a regime that denies the Holocaust while plotting to commit another one, and has a history of lying repeatedly to the international community while murdering away around the world (including its own citizens, uh..subjects). Obama has given Iran more time to develop nuclear weapons. But is there more damage that Obama has caused? He has allowed Iran time and wiggle room to escape the brunt of the one type of sanction that once held promise to restrain Iran: crafting and enforcing sanctions on companies and nations that export refined gas to Iran. In the last year, threats of sanctions on those few companies and nations that supply Iran with gasoline and heating oil have been partially effective. But the serious pressure would have come from sanctions passed by .

"But they're wrong, just as they have been from the start. Indeed, there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical about sticking to engagement. The main one is that it has already been tried -- and utterly failed. Iran has consistently used the West's willingness to engage as a delaying tactic, a smoke screen behind which Iran's nuclear program has continued undeterred and, in many cases, undetected."

Another episode in the “engagement” chronicles: “Since taking power nine years ago, Syrian strongman Bashar Assad has: turned his country into a safe haven and transit corridor for jihadists en route to Iraq; funneled sophisticated munitions to Hezbollah and probably Hamas; sought to build an illicit nuclear reactor with North Korean help; mostly failed to liberalize Syria’s economy and resisted liberalizing its politics; publicly declared that Israel would never ‘become a legitimate state even if the peace process is implemented’; and ruled while Syrians have been implicated by a U.N. investigator in the 2005 assassination of Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri. So, naturally, President Obama has made Syria a prime target for diplomacy as part of his new Axis of Engagement.”

more: Under Sharia law, the Roc may be summoned once every thousand years. The departure was met with shock, sadness and disbelief throughout the world. In the streets of New York, hundreds of thousands of people flooded into the streets in a spontaneous outpouring of emotion. "Here in America, we have enjoyed so much of Saudi culture, including shawarma, fatwas, censorship, and bans on pork and alcohol," wept one woman. "Now it is gone, gone forever." President Obama gave a tribute to Saudi Arabia later in the day. "Many have said that Saudi Arabia lagged behind the rest of the world," he said. "Yet, when it came to lagging behind, this proud nation was ahead of us all." However, widespread concerns that the world's largest oil deposits had also been taken away proved false. A flyby of the area revealed the Saudi oil in a vast lake at the bottom of the hole where the country used to be. Said Obama, "This does not lessen our grief, but it makes it easier to bear."

Obama has set a series of false notes in foreign policy by standing silently as huge crowds in Iran courageously protested a stolen election and failing to support Honduras against a Chavez-like attempt to avoid the rules of a democracy. He has not even been consistent: in the first case, he feared being characterized as the Wild “Meddling” West; in the second, he had no compunctions against major meddling. In another sense, however, he was consistent. In both cases he failed to support the people who were standing up, which makes his rhetoric in Russia still another false note.

Instead, we had power brokers in Baghdad sticking it to George Bush at every opportunity they had. The Iraqi attitude toward the United States is mutual among the 53% who voted for the guy who opposed The Surge. Now it is dawning on some Iraqis that having the U.S. military leave is not a good thing. Iraq had a choice to make. It could have been South Korea. Instead, it decided to be South Vietnam.      Mousavi wasn’t about to give up Iran’s nuclear program either. But the fact that engagement is now so patently absurd even to the left blogosphere should give the Obama team pause. What are they going to do now? So perhaps it was not George Bush’s “fault” that we couldn’t “get along” with Iran. Any American president who declines to countenance the regime’s thuggish behavior becomes the object of their scorn. There is no “engagement” without forfeiting our conscience. And the notion that Ahmadinejad and his mullah patrons would give up their nuclear program in response to some charm offensive from the president is now revealed to be utter drivel. If Obama can’t rally world opinion now — when the nature and intentions of the regime are so clear — it is hard to see when he will ever be able to do so. After all, who now thinks we can do “business” with the mullahs and/or learn to live with a nuclear-armed despotic regime?

He also said Iran was trying to distract attention from its internal difficulties. 1.12pm: Fars News, a mouthpiece for the Revolutionary Guards, is reporting that the BBC Tehran correspondent, Jon Leyne, has been given 24 hours to leave Iran for filing "false news and reports, ignoring impartiality, supporting the insurgents, trampling the rights of the Iranian nation, fanning the unrest and also provoking public opinion". Meanwhile, he says the Balatarin website says that families of those killed in street clashes are being asked to pay between 10m rials and 150m rials ( 611 and 9,165) to retrieve their loved ones from the morgues.

Photos: Bloody Aftermath of the Presidential Elections in Iran
    clip-on-tie
    by clip-on-tie  6-14-2009
From the American standpoint, the most significant development related to the election came from the U.S. itself. Asked about the voting in Iran, Barack Obama said, “Ultimately the election is for the Iranians to decide. You’re seeing people looking at new possibilities. And whoever ends up winning the election in Iran, the fact that there’s been a robust debate hopefully will help advance our ability to engage them in new ways.” For someone who sees false choices everywhere, he sure was snoozing on this one. Obama’s was a depressingly bad answer. For what does this now say about America’s attitude toward Friday’s insult to democracy? Does the American president really believe that the Iranian public decided the outcome?

Obama Fails to Challenge Muslim World on Treatment of Gays and Lesbians

Pretty damning, if you ask me. But as we all know, Democrats ignore their core constituencies (blacks, labor, gays etc) except during an election year. So how come Dick Cheney gets no love for his tolerance and views on gay marriage? Why did President Obama completely ignore the persecution of gays where Islamic law is the rule of the land? It is happening in Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, and even Egypt. (The list goes on and on actually….) Gays living under strict Islamic law (whether in a nation or a region) are subject to death. Women (as a group) actually have better lives in the Muslim faith than do gays and lesbians. Although gay men seem to be particular targets of the horrific state/mosque-sanctioned atrocities. Has Obama not seen the photos of young gay men being hanged in Iran? I am really beginning to wonder why the American gay and lesbian activists were so hot for Obama to begin with.
