POPSU.N. on Israeli War Crimes
The Goldstone Report now has been approved overwhelmingly by the UN General Assembly. The report calls for Israel to investigate it's war crime accusations...and for the Palestinians to investiage theirs -- and says the slow starvation of over a million and half people in the Gaza Strip should stop. Now, it seems it goes to the Security Council. Which means, if things go as usual, the USA will veto it and it will end there. The USA has does similar actions at the UN for decades, protecting Israel, no matter what. The USA House of Congress has even gone on record, this week, opposing this war crimes report. Israel yesterday seized a ship with weapons and said they come from Iran and this was a war crime...also pointing out that Russia, the USA, China, etc. are all guility of war crimes. POPSIran Insists on Nuclear Rights Last week Iran told the UN's IAEA that it has a nuclear enrichment plant under construction (with no nuclear material in it and over a year away from being operational). That's the fact. Iran telling this info was all properly done in accord with the IAEA, the NPT, and the U.N. terms it has signed onto. Note: Some nations, like Israel and India, have nukes but haven't signed these agreements...so just signing onto these agreements is the first step in "trying to do the right thing." POPSIran? Secret? Nukes? Revealed? Like a massive nuclear propaganda super spin bomb all news today is about the revelation of a second nuclear enrichment power plant in Iran. This "revelation," started 4 days ago when Iran told the world about it. The plant is not operational yet. POPSObama Speaks at United Nations Somewhat low key. This article/clip is a reasonable summary. Unfortuantely there is a joke in U.S. politics about "that depends upon what your definition of 'is,' is." -- meaning, on specific issues - is his objection to 'nukes,' in Iran and North Korea objections to nuke weapons or also objection to Iran's nuclear power program (which is legal and in accord with the UN IAEA). Does he desire for reducing nukes and being honest with nukes include the "secret," nuclear weapons of Israel that somehow always fail to get mentioned. Surprisingly firm, while committed to Israel's security he said the increase in Israel settlements was "illegitimate." - a rather firm statement and talked about the 1967 borders of Israel, and how Palestine needs a "contagious," free and real independent state. But none of these things would seem acceptable to Israel at all, their "peace terms," clearly sounding like "we go on with aggression and expansion," statements.

POPSWH Response to More Troop Request This incomplete and unconfirmed story, aka "leak," hints that the President may not go along with the Pentagon request for more troops in Afghanistan. Although, that's still just a "leak," right now and there has been no official request for more troops. It seems we're once again in a "battle of the leaks," -- people sending out anonymous ideas and checking out the responses. The rabid right-wing will make up lies and jump on everything to smear Obama...and there are some landmine issues that could cripple any president: 1. Backing down to the Russians....a big American no-no...and that's now claimed, plus: 2. Not supporting troops/war -- 3. Not offering special deals and blind, uncritical support for Israel. That's the only mention of the Holocaust. And text from other speeches, two he gave here in the States in the last two years, say the same thing: He's not denying the Holocaust; he is denying that it is a valid excuse to set up a racist Zionist state and mistreat Palestinians. POPSIran promises full appeal rights for potential US spy #1 > Most USA Americans seem to think we don't use spies. This despite common sense, despite never ending revelations of the government illegally spying on it's own people, despite the case of 27 CIA agents indicted in Italy, etc. etc. #2. It seems Yanks can totally disregard their own behavior and we're suppose to be upset about (gasp!) her trial was secret (for national security reasons), while for most of the nightmare Bush years we've been holding HUNDREDS of people in prison who haven't even had a trial; in fact, who haven't even had specific charges made against them, who names are not even released and many of whom have been tortured. This woman, on the other hand, even though her initial prompt trial (she hasn't had to wait years in jail before her trial) was behind closed doors -- for national security reasons just like the USA always claims -- she did have a lawyer, her name was released, she's able to talk to her parents and she now has the right of appeal. !?

POPSA White House Sedar? WTF? Yesterday, President Obama and guests celebrated Passover the first Passover Seder at the White House. WTF? So should we now have a Muslim service? A Catholic Mass? A Southern Baptist Easter Service? And although Westerns don't take other religions too seriously, what about the Hindus? the Buddhist? Shinto believers? Native American Tepee events? Not to mention the atheist, agnostics and others might feel left out. The nation is sinking in a swamp of attempts to promote religious wars religious based controversial issues and hosting official religious services (not just a 2-minute prayer or something) is going in the way wrong direction. One good Constitutional principle of the USA (among others) is the separation of church and state and now instead of shedding these influences politics is invaded with them and panders to them.
