Murder of Natalia Estemirova ;Will Russia punish the killers?
    chedare
    by chedare  7-17-2009    2
Natasha was well known outside Russia as someone who sought justice and accountability for abuses by all sides to the conflict in Chechnya. We honored her with the Human Rights Watch Defender Award in 2007. Natasha had also been honored by various European institutions: In 2005 she received the European Parliament's Robert Shuman medal and in 2004 was awarded the "Right to Life" award by the Swedish Parliament. She also was the first recipient of the Anna Politkovskaya prize -- named for the journalist who met the same fate. While the international community applauded her work, the Chechen authorities were not as pleased. She risked, and lost, her life for her cause. We are planning a concerted response to ensure that Russia does not let this crime go uninvestigated or forgotten.Shared sentiment with chara and thnx... www.hrw.org

The phrase "defining deviancy down" to capture how society tolerates behavior previously considered unacceptable. Obama has defined deviancy up by minimizing Geithner's clearly intentional cheating. Now why, given his wealth, he prepared his own taxes. My guess is that he wanted to keep his omissions to himself. Don't many people cheat some on their taxes? Perhaps. But obviously that should disqualify them from becoming secretary of the treasury. Kissinger cronie says it all.More crims & crooks means Kissinger & Co will go on murdering and robbing the indigenous people in West Papua I have big doubts this guy has the maturity not to be influenced by the shysters.Worlds biggest celebrity.. OK, lets see about some justice , equity and equality for those oppressed,(not put a fox in charge of the chook house) or is it all well crafted rhetoric.

Australia after mobilising the air force to the top end and coming to the brink of war with Indonesia it is of some concern to fair minded people that our actions were not purely alturistic.Aust aid has been extremely generous to our Indonesian neighbours with Billions of $ currently building 2000 schools there but East Timor to my mind seems cheated as with West Papua. Is it robbing peter to pay paul or appeasment to 240,000 000 sacrificing our smaller friendly neighbours.Fair go Aussie,s appeasment doesnt work and Prime minister Rudd is a fool to squander our principles, and ignoring human rights close to home while toadieing off all the way with USA to remote regions ignoring our own back yard. The Pacific Forum hates this US style bullying too.Wake up Australia!

I recently heard Mick Dobson Aboriginal australian spokesman heartened by Obamas intention to embrace issues with the Indiginous Nations issues in USA.I hope like others that he is not blinkered to overseas exploitation of other indiginous cultures and walks the talk globally,, cherry picking will be the cowards way given his pride in statements that he grew up in the "poor" country till he was 10. That country has extremes between rich and poor and justice is often very expensive depending on colour and religion.Melanesians have no respect or rights and due to USA policy in cold war years had their self determination shredded by US and corrupt Sakano,s expansionist ambitions.

    Seven Cardinal & Contrary Virtues
    Jorjor
    by Jorjor  9-29-2008    5
Most people are aware of the seven deadly (or cardinal) sins, but few are aware that there are two sets of seven virtues as well, one set standing in direct contrast to the sins. I find it interesting that a page devoted to atheism had a concise and easily found description of these attributes, but the religious sites I visited required wading through reams of theology much too extensive to clip. There is a clip on the Seven Cardinal Sins posted at http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/B17AB9AE-948C-4C29-8867-F0FC3434B26B/ by Sheroug.

    Social injustice breeds extremists
    darkduskx
    by darkduskx  9-24-2008    1
You can't truly say he's about love. It is wrong for him to want a nation for 7.2 million to be destroyed. That would only cause another refugee crisis if not countless deaths as we are seeing in Iraq. One cannot speak of love and totally demonize a nation of people. The reason his extremist point of view is accepted instead of opposed though is because he keeps pointing out injustices in order to justify his extremism. If we were to solve the Israeli-Palestinian issue and others once and for all, extremists like him would not have as much support. People of all sides who want peace need to unite and push for social justice so injustice does not breed extremists. From this clip you know there is people on both sides and in the US who want peace once and for all: http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/9537C8CD-538E-4BF3-AA9B-D28EAACF6463/ I'm an American and I do not want my own country to collapse. We need to concentrate our efforts in making our country better for our own citizens ins

The Mission Statement That Changed The World
    Aribeth
    by Aribeth  3-13-2008    6
His first response was one of anger. He was so angry that he wanted eye for eye justice. He wanted to respond violently to the people that humiliated him. But he stopped himself, and said ‘that’s not right.’ It was not going to bring him justice. It might make him feel good for the moment, but it wasn’t going to get him any justice. From that point onward, he developed the philosophy of non-violence and practiced it in his life, as well as in his search for justice in South Africa. He ended up staying in that country for 22 years. And then he went and led the movement of India. And that movement ended up with an independent country, something that no one would have ever envisioned.”

    Color Psychology
    Aribeth
    by Aribeth  3-2-2008    2
Color psychology is concerned with the effects of color on mood, emotion, behavior.Colors are not only used for decorations or adding beauty to an object, but they can be used to determine personality traits to affect people’s mood and to effect on other people around you. Each colour is connected to various areas of our body and will affect us differently emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Several ancient cultures, including the Egyptians and Chinese, practiced chromotherapy, or using colors to heal. Chromotherapy is sometimes referred to as light therapy or colourology and is still used today as a holistic or alternative treatment. In this treatment: * Red was used to stimulate the body and mind and to increase circulation. * Yellow was thought to stimulate the nerves and purify the body. * Orange was used to heal the lungs and to increase energy levels. * Blue was believed to soothe illnesses and treat pain. I'll take red :-)

    When does waterboarding become just?
    apple white
    by apple white  11-9-2007
Part of a statement by Malcolm Wrightson Nance, former member of the U.S. military intelligence community, prepared for his testimony at a hearing of the House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties on Thursday, Nov. 8. Another excerpt: But, does the ultimate goal of protecting America require us to adopt policies that shift our mindset from righteousness and self-defense to covert cruelty? Does protecting America "at all costs" mean sacrificing the Constitution, our laws and the Bill of Rights in order to save it? I do not believe that. The attacks of September 11 were horrific, but they did not give us the right to destroy our moral fabric as a nation or to reverse a course that for two hundred years led the world towards democracy, prosperity and guaranteed the rights of billions to live in peace.
