POPSThe economics of modernity (one of my favorite clips ever) I really love this clip. Speaks to the rat race so many of us live in...trying to make enough money to buy ipods, laptops, cars, clothing, jewelry and all sorts of other things that we don't necessarily need and that don't truly make us happy. The irony is that the toll it takes on us is probably damaging to our well being, both physically and emotionally.

POPSAmerica in 1825: the poor are simply sold If you lived in the rural North, and you died, your children, your spouse, your Grandma were auctioned to whomever thought they could get enough work out of them to justify their expense. We had auctions for slaves in the South, and for paupers in the North. Small government is brutal government.

POPSShould Online identity remain anonymous? I think that this is a realy bad case of a disturbed human. while the net can be the vehicle it certainly is not the source of this behaviour. second unrelated thing is that in this days of the Web i really think we ought to reconsider and redefine what is anonymity?

POPSFalse hope syndrome "The cure for false hope is to set more reasonable goals and recognize that achieving even modest change will be difficult. And if you are older than 30, remember that your openness to new experiences is slowly declining, so you are better off making a new start today than postponing it until later. Perhaps most important of all, try to appreciate the person that you already are." I cannot disagree more! to be a human means to want the stars, to reach the unknown. yes, in the cost of not being satisfied...

POPSThe truest statement about twitter i've heard
The sentence above has me thinking that perhaps twitter has tapped into a couple of things that are much bigger than i ever considered. Whether you like, hate or love twitter, you can't help but marvel at how important its become to our culture in such a short period of time. And you probably have found yourself thinking about why that is. I know i do. Well, here's a thought. Perhaps twitter is a place of salvation from a world that otherwise feels like it's swallowing up the little guy. Over the past decade, people have begun to feel extreme levels of skepticism and resentment towards corporate america and politicians. An overall feeling that the system is tilted against the little guy has become pervasive and people have become fed up. What better than to find a place where we can tune out whoever we want, only hear from people we allow in (i.e. follow) and talk about whatever we feel like with those who care about what we have to say. On twitter, you truly are the maste

POPSCopyright and web2.0 "It needs to be clear, transparent and fair. It is not about acknowledging that people have done something original and can benefit from copyright protection, but it establishes fair terms, for example, that by joining up to the university network the person accepts that their material can be freely used and shared." in the web2.0 era the concept of ownership and propriety usage of content is evolving.
