POPSPower from the sun At a time when the delicate ecosystems need to be considered the advance in sustainable energy systems is to be welcomed. As the cost of the technology drops here is hoping more countries will play their part.

POPSThis article on our food supply is timely Wealthy nations have seen them feel quite unconcerned about the Earth's ability to grow enough food - but that is about to change. It is clear from spiraling prices that food production is entering a critical phase and that increasing numbers will be affected badly. The Third World, in the face of such shortages, appears doomed to even harsher times. We are very poor stewards of our planet!

POPSJapanese are a disgrace & ridiculed The Japanese continue to be environmental vandals and callous, cold people. Wanton destruction of dolphins is shameful and the tatty aquatic parks supporting them by purchasing the young are to be deplored.

POPSWhalers decimate even pregnant females! These callous whalers are not only taking the present generation of whales, they are also taking future generations! I believe the time has come for decisive action - not the limp-wristed efforts of so many Governments. Australia through the new Rudd administration made a great start - but they have now joined ranks with those capitulating to the Japanese. Some leadership!

POPSBottom Trawling is a disaster Our ocean floors are being wrecked as bottom trawling bulldozes these sensitive areas. Fish stocks and marine systems are being totally wrecked by commercial interests. These people work in a devious underhand way knowing these foul practices are hard to highlight and verify.

POPSPlant diversity being wrecked in China The insatiable appetite for raw materials sees China fast becoming the World's biggest vandal. China is on a quest to feed its industry at a huge cost to our natural environment. This can't persist!

POPSIs mankind generally moronic? I'd have to agree with Al Gore - too many watch soap opera and reality shows or get consumed in trivia to worry about what is going on "out there". Here we have a World falling "part at the seams" as the majority doesn't give a damn. It speaks volumes!

POPSThe junta in Myanmar is cruel & callous I believe nothing highlights better how the World has "lost its way". We allow the junta in Myanmar to practice genocide, as we do in Darfur and with Mugabe the tyrant. I think at a certain point the tyrannical regimes have to be afforded a hefty response - but the free World simply watches and allows the position to deteriorate further. China is one of the World's villains - it is allowing all three regimes mentioned above to be supplied with arms and sustenance for their despot leaders. Shame on China!!!!!!

POPSCheats are poisoning us! We are being hoodwinked by false labelling and deceit. I despise people who, in a bid to make profit, will trade on misery to an unsuspecting World. Hopefully the pedlers in human misery will meet a miserable death of their own! I have little sympathy for them.

POPSPlastic a Revolution -Plastic a Curse We are, often innocently, contributing to a mammoth and growing problem. Our oceans, for one, often the ultimate waste destination are being devastated by an avalanche of plastic which is affecting all manner of sea and bird life. The problem is huge!

POPSThe Oil Companies and the US are about to exploit Africa Africa is about to become a pawn in the oil industry and the ramifications could be immense. Is this why the tragedy of Dafur has been allowed to linger on? Is this part of a strategy? Has Mugabe been also part of the same game? It all has an odius smell!

POPSReal warning signs on climate The weather is a barometer we must heed - we allow an environmental collapse at our collective peril. We have little option but to address the situation with urgency.

POPSJapan is finally feeling the heat on whaling Notwithstanding that a hopelessly astray Kiwi (Glenn Inwood quoted here) sees fit to go against the views of most of his fellow Kiwis, Japan is becoming increasingly pressured to stop whaling. Their days of working scams and shams to continue whaling are coming to an end. As a fellow Kiwi I hope the Japanese offer Glenn Inwood sufficient inducement to leave New Zealand. He doesn't represent the views of most Kiwis - in fact he shames us!
