POPSCall Out to Protect our Water “I believe the proposal to allow increased dumping of ammonia and toxic sludge into Lake Michigan from British Petroleum's oil refinery in Whiting, Indiana is unconscionable. Certainly a company that claims to be "Beyond Petroleum" can also be beyond polluting our waters. "Please halt progress on this proposal now and find a way to deal with the waste this plant produces other than dumping more of it into Lake Michigan."

POPSAncient Climate Change May Portend Toasty Future With a continuation of current trends in the use of coal, oil, and gas, natural background atmospheric CO2 concentrations are expected to double around mid-century. The ancient emissions are comparable to the CO2 that can be expected from human activity over the coming few centuries. If human-induced carbon emissions continue unabated, there could be a similar shift in species evolution.

POPSMayor's Plea: Turn Down the AC! New York isn't the only state that is being asked to conserve. Lower southeastern MI was told that our reserves are lower than they like to see. We're being asked to utilize major appliances after 8pm or before 1pm. Includes washers, dryers, dishwashers, etc. We've been asked to pump the AC up 10 degrees higher so it isn't running constantly; and to pump it up 5 if we're home. They've already browned out some areas by turning off traffic lights, so some less busy intersections become 4 way courtesy stops. And traffic accidents up the yazoo. You'd think it had snowed 5 feet. jeesh. We've also had 2 ozone action days. No gas lawn mowing, no gas fillups until dawn, don't drive if you don't have to. Stuff like that (for those that don't know what some of these mean).

POPSNuclear Nightmares- 20 Yrs since Chernobyl There isn't anything I can or want to clip other than what you see above. In order to view the photos and their details, you have to visit the site. In reviewing this website, to visit it is the only way to get a true sense of the life after Chernobyl. Although, highly clipworthy (IMHO), it deserves direct traffic. Credit given where credit is due. This website is NOT enjoyable nor is it highly graphic. But can be a bit depressing. One has to wonder why, why, why! There is some information at the site that basically states this area is and will be radioactive for hundreds of years yet. Place your mouse over the pictures to force a description of each photo. There are "back" and "next" buttons. Difficult to see due to the dark background of the website, but they are there. I added the tag "global warming" for the reasons you'll read on the last page of this website.
