POPS18 piece religious art made from junk "The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations’ Millennium General Assembly" titles this collection of extraordinary pieces, cobbled together over 14 years by James Hampton. Hampton was an African-American janitor in Washington, DC. A man of modest means, Hampton rented some storage space in an alley and created this work out of discarded bits of foil and plastic, junk furniture and second-hand items. The work wasn't discovered until after his death in 1964, when the landlord of the storage space opened it up to clear it out. It now resides in the Smithsonian's folk art display. POPSPorto Daybed from Crate & Barrel This is one of the nicest daybeds I've seen. Elegant, light and airy, but still a substantial piece. I could easily see this in my living room-to-be. $499. at Crate & Barrel

POPSDunhill chair from Crate & Barrel I love the comfortable, sturdy look of this English drawing-room chair. The slightly distressed look and detailing make it seem like the grandfather piece: quietly dignified, yet commanding the attention of the room. $1,899 at Crate & Barrel

POPSArhaus copper arabesque dining table I love this table with its iron base and hammered copper top on a hardwood foundation. They're available in round or oval in a variety of colors. Since each top is hand-forged individually, each is unique.
