Thoughts of Orwell & Shakespeare & Socialism

You know - a rose by any other name, etc. The pres. swears he's not nationalizing any companies, but he wants to tell them how to pay their employees. Notice, nothing is said about this only applying to companies who've accepted bail-outs. At the very least, this is the definition of Socialism.

Another Misleading Headline
blakelylaw
by blakelylaw  2-28-2009
When you saw the headline in the clip, I'm sure you thought what I thought. - Although it technically doesn't say anything incorrect, the scream immediately makes one think they're human placentas. Read the article & it quickly becomes apparent that they have not yet been identified regarding the source - human or animal. Plus, there have only been three stretched out over a year. The city thinks they're either from a veternarian or a midwife trying to dispose of a perfectly normal afterbirth. And newspapers wonder why they're going out of business?!

Commutations, Not Pardons
blakelylaw
by blakelylaw  1-19-2009
In his final act of clemency, Bush released the two Border Patrol agents who were convicted in Texas of shooting a Mexican drug dealer. Given the fact that they were tried by a jury, I'm glad that he commuted the sentences rather than granting a pardon; however, I think he should have done it right after the convictions.

Save Them or Leave Them Be?

I hate to see any animal suffer & my family has tried to save it's share of wild, and not so wild, animals over the years, but I tend to agree with the scientists on this one. I certainly disagree with one lady in the story - they're not like children. I say do what you can, e.g. make sure they have food, then let nature take it's course.

English Housewife Takes Repairman Hostage!
blakelylaw
by blakelylaw  1-18-2009    1
Gotta love it! Wonder how many people will at least think about this now. The lady takes cares of a 6-person household. She bought a new washing machine 10-mths. ago which is apparently a lemon. It's most recent breakdown occurred in early December & the company said the earliest it could send someone out would be after Christmas. When the repairman did come out last week, he told her it need a nickel part, but started to leave without fixing it. The rest, as they say, is history. She made her point. The company is giving her a new washer!

British Politician Says Dyslexia Is Fictional Ailment
blakelylaw
by blakelylaw  1-14-2009
I agree with one part of what he says. - I believe that dyslexia is real; however, "enlightened" Western societies too often allow it to be used as a crutch instead of "forcing" people to overcome it with proper teaching, which can be done.
