You can see in the face of the journalist an expectation that these kids were actually really conscious and fully aware of the consequences of reputation that this would have on them later on. The kids cannot be treated as just having reacted emotionally and naturally, and like children, but rather there is an expectation that their behaviour was adult like, adult driven, and adult centered. Again a strong emphasis on a motivation linked to an idea of rescue, the Hero, rather than an instinctual feeling of rescue.
