Stone paper is just a cool idea. I would like it even if it weren't for the environmental issues. It's fascinating that we're back to 'carving' on stone.

To Queer, or Not To Queer?
aerynvala
by aerynvala  9-25-2008    19
One of the few genuinely interesting things about the Knight Rider movie/pilot earlier this year was FBI agent Carrie Ruvai's apparent queerness. Unsurprisingly, it's caused waves and will probably never be seen again. But some of the people behind the scenes aren't as homophobic as the suits.

Starhawk wrote a book Five Sacred Things, that postulated SF as being the centre of a somewhat utopian new society. Looks like the people there are actually aiming for that in reality too. Kinda cool.

My most recent venture into conlanging
aerynvala
by aerynvala  5-5-2006    10
Once upon a time I wanted to learn a foreign language, and not being in school I couldn't imagine how I'd learn one. So, as usual, I took the least complex route and started inventing my own language. Later I figured out that they had books and tapes and stuff to teach you foreign languages. Go figure! Still, my love of conlanging stayed with me. This conlang is actually a collaboration between my dear friend and me, with occasional input from her daughter. There are examples, grammar, phonology and more on the source page.

Listening To Teens, Not Just Demonizing Them

I listen to My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy and others that are called 'emo'. I know, from an adult perspective, that calling them suicide-promoting cults is a filthy lie. But it's really good to see a teenager eloquently saying it as well.
