POPSWhat Ideas Will Shape our Future? The 10 Ideas of the 21st Century "More than money, more than politics, ideas are the secret power that this planet runs on." "The 21st century will overturn many of our basic assumptions about economic life. The 20th century saw the end of European dominance of global politics and economics. The 21st century will see the end of American dominance too, as new powers make their voices heard on the world stage." "The challenges of sustainable development—protecting the environment, stabilizing the world's population, narrowing the gaps of rich and poor and ending extreme poverty—will render passé the very idea of competing nation-states that scramble for markets, power and resources." "The defining challenge of the 21st century will be to face the reality that humanity shares a common fate on a crowded planet." "6.6 billion people living in an interconnected global economy producing an astounding $60 trillion of output each year."

POPSAfraid Of Re-installing Windows XP? f you're anything like me, there's a good chance that your XP system is slow as hell and things don't work properly anymore. Sure, it used to be nice and fast when the computer was new and XP was fresh, but you just had to keep installing and uninstalling all that software, didn't you?

POPSCanonical's new Ubuntu The past few releases of Ubuntu had become quite uninteresting, so this breath of fresh air is especially welcome. The standardization of the 3D desktop is a good thing because it'll allow more exposure. If the plug-and-play functionality works as advertised, it could convince more people to try Linux, since the biggest barrier (aside from software incompatibility) is hardware malevolence. I'm behind Canonical on this.

POPSParallels or VMWare for Win on Mac? I purchased parallels so that I can test our sites in IE here on my mac, and soon after VMWare began to get great hype. I'm still really happy with how quick it is to start a virtual install of XP here and dive into testing.

POPSUbuntu Ultimate 1.7 This video shows a few more examples of why Linux, Ubuntu, and Ubuntu Ultimate are becoming more popular. Linux is becoming more user friendly all of the time, with free Open Source programs designed and improved by the users. built by everyday users who know what they're looking for. Ubuntu Ultimate 1.7 was designed by Thee Mahn, but I have also included some links to The Ubuntu community home site where some of the many problems that are encountered by 'newbies ' such as myself, are solved with detailed explanations. Many questions have already been answered with new users striking the same glitches, but there is never any harm asking a new question. There will no doubt be someone else with the same problem. A 2.3 GB ultimate 1.7 DVD can be downloaded for free from a number of mirrors, or FTP, and HTTP sources, but there are also low priced DVD's available which can save time. One example was at OSdisc.com for about $6 but shop around

POPSVirtual Machines - an OS in an OS I currently use Microsoft's program (I got it through school) and it is great at running MS programs...but I need something for various Linux programs, so I can try those out without having to a dual boot, etc. etc. This is a great way to experiment, and if you mess up, it's really easy to go back to the beginning.
