WND: Selling sex and corruption to your kids
adamskinner
by adamskinner  10-20-2006
At 31 years of age, growing up in central New Hampshire, maybe I missed the wave on this one. Maybe not. I think the thing tha protected me from trying to be "like the cool kids" or to "fit in" was, ironically, my interest in reading. I was a big fan of high fantasy (the Belgariad & Mallorean, the Icewind Dale trilogy, the Riftwar Saga, Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, etc), and in this same space was Sci-fi. And through Sci-fi, I read Heinlen's "Stranger in a Strange Land" and "Friday". And more importantly to my developing psyche, I read the "Illuminatus Trilogy" by Robert Anton Wilson & Robert Shea. And so I began to think outside the box. To see the forces working in culture and the minds of men. And this seperated me from people, I think. I was using a different paradigm. I never tried to "be cool".

Homosexuals are overrepresented in child sex offenses
adamskinner
by adamskinner  10-17-2006    6
You'll often hear that "homosexuals are no more likely to pedophilia than heterosexuals". This is patently untrue. Homosexuals may commit less crimes overall, but on a "per capita" basis, they are more likely to commit such crimes than heterosexuals. This is one of the reasons people and governments are hesitant to give children to homosexuals to rear, be it through surrogacy or adoption.

Amazon.com ripping images off of Newegg?

by adamskinner  10-17-2006
It looks like Amazon is ripping images off of Newegg.com. The NWN Diamond package image is clearly watermarked with Newegg's sigil, but you can see that the item is "Shipped and sold by Amazon.com". What's up with that action?

Enchant is a pretty cool spell checker. It allows you to run multiple spell checking engines and ties them all together, and presents them with a consistent api. It was suggested for Firefox 2.0, and KDE is planning on using it in the future.

Pay Attention
egoldstein
by egoldstein  10-12-2006    2
A very underrated and neglected thing to do. I really find that most people don't pay much attention to things most of the time. For whatever reason, i tend to be someone who pays very close attention to everything. I guess if you think about it, clipmarks is kind of about paying attention to what you're reading and capturing the finer points that others may overlook (a stretch?) I've noticed that my daughter pays incredible attention to her surroundings and i think it's had an incredible impact on her ability to learn to speak.

Too true! People are trapped mentally by the expectations of others. By taking into consideration their norms and expectations, and purposefully setting yoruself against them, they have power over you. Instead of fulfilling your intention to be free of their influence, you are still trapped by their influence!
