Immortality only 20 years away says scientist
    clip-on-tie
    by clip-on-tie  9-22-2009    12
No thanks, I don't want to live forever. "Ultimately, nanobots will replace blood cells and do their work thousands of times more effectively. "Within 25 years we will be able to do an Olympic sprint for 15 minutes without taking a breath, or go scuba-diving for four hours without oxygen. "Heart-attack victims – who haven't taken advantage of widely available bionic hearts – will calmly drive to the doctors for a minor operation as their blood bots keep them alive. "Nanotechnology will extend our mental capacities to such an extent we will be able to write books within minutes. "If we want to go into virtual-reality mode, nanobots will shut down brain signals and take us wherever we want to go. Virtual sex will become commonplace. And in our daily lives, hologram like figures will pop in our brain to explain what is happening. "So we can look forward to a world where humans become cyborgs, with artificial limbs and organs."

Bots A 33-year-old known only as Zoltan made news in Georgia by marrying the robot he built. Zoltan and his womandroid have a happy relationship, not only because she doesn't have voice capability, but also because she surprisingly has no presidential aspirations. Beer Bottles Straight from the fertile 'tard farm of Yahoo! Answers comes this provocative inquiry: "How do I get my penis out of a beer bottle?" Don't bother replying, folks—moments later, the questioner explained that he freed himself by cracking a hole in the base of the bottle and applying some ice before lubing it all up. Buddy, that's not what they mean by "Tap the Rockies." So, which is the more creative sex? Maybe the females can come up with better.

Toy Robot Intended to Save Humans
    balthazarus
    by balthazarus  10-7-2008
This narrative, crafted by Hugo award winner Tony Daniel and University of Texas performance professor Thomas Riccio, is intended to make Zeno into a character that people identify with and want to to see develop — something with the depth of a movie character or a figure from a Homerian epic. That makes Zeno into as much of a sociological experiment as it is a technical marvel or fun toy. "The idea is to create a cultural phenomenon and accelerate the use and humanization of the technology," Where story, game, reality, toys are not differentiable anymore.

what happened was: "The media company said a single visit to the bankruptcy story in the wee hours Sunday morning, when traffic to the newspaper's site was low, pushed the item onto the list of popular articles. Google's search technology then picked up the story as breaking news, Tribune said." Scary...

When The Messiah Speaks, The Youth Will Hear

“Not sure the Obama team will be thrilled about yet another crazy association,” added another commenter on the NewsBusters forums page. Previous reports have documented Obama’s links to Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga, onetime Weatherman bombing suspect Bill Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who proclaimed a black liberation theology for 20 years while Obama was a member of his church, demanding that God “d***” America. “How much more have to come out on Obama before the O-Bots put down the kool-aid and say ENOUGH!” added a third. “Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus,” Cohen said during a one-minute speech on the floor of the U.S. House yesterday. “Pontius Pilate was a governor.” Democrats, including party strategist Donna Brazile and Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., made nearly identical biblical comparisons of the characters in this presidential election Is Barack Obama the Messiah? http://obamamessiah.blogspot.com/

50 Ways You Can Help Obama Change America! Look, Obama-bots: The book has the weighty endorsements of starlets, rappers, and yes, Teddy Kennedy. ....and it’s imperative that we keep that momentum going by involving the next generation.” "Jessica Alba …This book provides simple ways to use the arts and other means for making change.” "Will.I.Am, Black Eyed Peas “In 50 Ways You Can Help Obama ChangeAmerica"... ......for anyone interested in making a difference and helping President Obama get our nation back on track.” "The late Senator Edward M. Kennedy Co-author Michael Huttner urges his fellow Obama cultists to buy the book so they, too, can be inspired to “help Obama pass health care reform, enact other core campaign promises, and move the country forward.” The national media doesn’t want to talk about the dominance of conservative books atop the New York Times best-seller list and other national lists. But it’s clearly getting under the Left’s skin.

    Fast T friend
    by Fast T friend  11-11-2008    1
"After 26 days, and almost 350 million e-mail messages, only 28 sales resulted," wrote the researchers. The response rate for this campaign was less than 0.00001%. This is far below the average of 2.15% reported by legitimate direct mail organisations. "Taken together, these conversions would have resulted in revenues of $2,731.88—a bit over $100 a day for the measurement period," said the researchers. Scaling this up to the full Storm network the researchers estimate that the controllers of the vast system are netting about $7,000 (£4,430) a day or more than $2m (£1.28m) per year.

O-Mighty One Unhappy With His Encounter With Joe ~ Mark Steyn
    merrie
    by merrie  10-20-2008    3
O-Man smoothly reassured him: “It’s not that I want to punish your success,” he told the bloated plutocrat corporate toilet executive. “I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they’ve got a chance for success too. I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.” In that sentence about you spreading the wealth around, there’s another typing error: that “you” should read “I, Barack.” “You” will have no say in it. Joe the Plumber might think he himself can spread it around just fine, but everyone knows “trickle-down economics” don’t work. So President-presumptive Obama kindly explained the new exquisitely condescending “talking-down economics." Evidently the O-Mighty One was not happy after his encounter with Joe. He’s still willing to talk to Ahmadinejad without preconditions. But never again will he talk to Joe the Plumber without preconditions.

My initial response was to laugh. Anything man builds is flawed in some way. Making such a grand prediction that scientist can even build a robot that won’t commit a crime is asking for too much faith from us. Noel Sharkey, a computer scientist at Sheffield University, best known for his involvement with the cult television show Robot Wars, is the leading critic of the US plans. He says: "It sends a cold shiver down my spine. I have worked in artificial intelligence for decades, and the idea of a robot making decisions about human termination is terrifying." Noel, that about sums it up.

The story concentrates on an aspect of development, but continues the speculation as to the potential of robots As the technology progresses, the function of robots is bound to expand exponentially, and have threads in many fields, but I think we should be careful that we don't allow robots perform some human, practical, and other everyday tasks to the extent that we forget how to do them ourselves
