POPSLeahy Proposes Bush Crimes 'Truth Commission' This is one of those good news/bad news things. The good news is that someone's taking the crimes of the Bush administration seriously. The bad news is that they're not taking them seriously enough . What Leahy's proposing is a commission that would be "modeled after a similar panel that investigated apartheid in South Africa," in which "witnesses would not face charges except if they commit perjury." In other words, a waste of freakin' time. The reason for the SA truth commission was that crimes were so widespread on both sides that jailing everyone who'd committed one would've been disastrous and insane. There are only a few people in the Bush admin., so there's no reason to worry about a significant portion of the population being imprisoned.

POPSPoll Finds Americans Hopeful, But Realistic, About Obama While some have argued that expectations for the new president are "too high," the findings of this poll shows that may not be the case. People seem to realize that we're in this for the long haul. Which is bad news for Republicans, whose only hope at this point is impatience by 2010. These numbers could easily change between now and then, but the fact that people are expecting a long period of bad news that they won't blame Obama for can't be welcome to GOPers.

POPSFinal Bush Approval Rating: 22% The piece also tells us: Half of all Americans, when they look back on Mr. Bush's eight years in office, believe he has been a poor president. Thirty-three percent think he has been an average president. Twelve percent say he has been a good president, and only 5 percent say he has been a very good president... As for the incoming president, the CBS News poll also asked about expectations of President-elect Barack Obama. Sixty-eight percent think Mr. Obama will be a good or very good president - 25 points higher than expectations for Mr. Bush. It's official. The final word is "sucked." The people have spoken.

POPSReferenda: Good News for Women, Bad for Gays Good on them. However, several states cast votes that they'll eventually regret. In California, Prop. 8 wins . Marriage equality is dead in California -- the same is true of measures in Arizona and Florida. In Arkansas, gays are banned from adopting or becoming foster parents . That's a shame -- literally. These are attitudes we'll all look back at with shame.

POPSFreepers See Conspiracy in Obama Gramdmother's Death A few comments from the right wing social news site Free Republic. These people believe Bill Clinton was everything from a serial killer to a coke smuggler, so this shouldn't come as any surprise. Consider this a preview. These are the fevered, psychotic, paranoid, and -- frankly -- cruel conspiracy theories we'll be hearing about for the next four years at least. That's right, these psychopaths actually believe Barack Obama would kill his own grandmother to win an election. These are seriously fucked in the head individuals.

POPS'Joe the Plumber' Complains About Media Attention Look buddy, you don't get to hold a press conference and then complain that the media's giving you too much attention. You especially don't get to do it on a cable news network show. In related news, McCain accuses Democrats of " smearing " Wurzelbacher -- as if all that stuff about him not actually being licensed, being behind on his taxes, and being opposed to Social Security are Democrats' fault.

POPSPoll: Most Would Rather Grill with Obama News you can't possibly use. Who decides that a news organization is going to drop the cash to field a survey like this? What does that business meeting look like? When you think about the effort that goes into finding out this non-news, fluff stuff, the mind boggles...

POPSIraq Contractor Shakeup A sort of good news/bad news thing. The good news is that Kellog, Brown, and Root (KBR) -- a Halliburton subsidiary who have really, really sucked -- is losing the exclusivity to its contract. The bad news is that it looks like it'll result in even less oversight, aggravating an already corrupt system of contractor funding.
