POPSShoot'Em-Up Construction Kit games Commodore 64 classic game-maker which I was addicted to in my childhood. Amazing what can be done with mods, and even more amazing that some people are still putting time into making 'em!

POPSCrossover fun in the Wold Newton Universe Like fiction? Like alternate reality? Like thinking about Buffy Summers being descended from a line of superhumans? Read within... for a "theory of everything" as it applies to heroic (and apparently, villainous) characters.

POPSTransformers Tataki Intro - Japan-only G1 game This never made it over to US shores, but will give fans of the original G1 series something to smile about — if only because of the energetic intro and cutscene vids. The game itself is said to be pretty repetitive and boring, but it totally gets me jazzed to see the classic bots in 3D animation, accompanied by a drum 'n' bass remix of the signature theme tune.

POPSF40 Pursuit Simulator - classic Amiga game I used to play this all the time when I was a kid... back on my Amiga 500 starter kit. I used to marvel at how smoothly gradiated the sun was, and how it could turn to sunset as the cops pursued you. Now, it looks rough and chunky in comparison, but I can reach my mind back and still remember those halcyon days of youth, with a joystick in my hands...

POPSClassic Mac beep sounds at the Info-Mac Hyperarchive Nearing a decade ago, I grew up on these, and I'm glad they're still around. The archive hasn't really been updated in ages, but I took the time today to snag all the .HQX files to my hard drive and archive them for posterity. Nothin' like livin' history!

POPSShufflepuck Cafe resource for classic Mac games Anyone else remember Shufflepuck Cafe? I actually first played it on the Amiga, in glorious 32 colors, but it stands as such a wonderful title involving kinetics, colorful characters, and all-'round great gameplay presented in a lovely atmosphere. This LiveJournal community uses Shufflepuck as a starting point, and has a few choice links to great Mac abandonware sites. Get your retro on!

POPSPlasma Pong: new twist on an old classic! The colors look mind-bendingly awesome; some might be quick to call this pong on an acid trip. Looks to me like the fundamentals are here, bolstered by kinetic graphics. It almost looks like a rainbow came alive on the field of play! (I haven't played this yet but wanted to make a note for myself and share with you!)

POPSBeneath a Steel Sky - freeware adventure game gem I found out about this a few days ago while doing some more fishing for retrogames: BaSS is a game I've never played before, only heard of. I'm familiar with the classic Sierra and LucasArts games as well as The Longest Journey, and much to my pleasure, this is in a similar vein. The music isn't up to par but the dialog is memorable and the visuals are pretty evocative — not DirectX 10, 3D goodness, but well-crafted nuances from an early age of electronic entertainment. As a 66 MB download, it comes highly recommended!

POPSBeyond the Mind's Eye - classic computer graphics Things have come a long way since this was made. If you saw this the first time around, you'll feel pangs of nostalgia like I am! Really gorgeous. There's also a clip of "Seeds of LIfe", another great track, on the page. You can see the full version of this video here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=YT7W7hBj31c Trivia: the composer is Jan Hammer, he of Miami Vice fame!

POPSWanna buy a virtual Easter Island head? Among other things... in the online world of Second Life, I'm frequently looking for eclectic goods which might not be of much practical value, but have a lot of humor quotient. Ever since I saw the Easter Island heads in the classic vidgame Gradius, I knew I'd want to put one on my front lawn. Add to this the fact that, Daryth Kennedy, who made these, also makes lots of beautiful dragons (one is pictured) and composite sun goddess avatars too... pretty!
