POPSYou can't judge this book by its cover! Caught this over @ Guy Kawasaki's blog. The title is punchy and gets right to the point; I'm clipping this at the encouragement of my girlfriend, and also because it goes hand-in-hand with the positive "be a nicer person" clips I've been seeing around. I haven't read this book, but Guy's blog entry about it sure is valuable. Read and laugh... at your own peril! :)

POPSClipmarks is aggregated on PopURLs! PopURLs ( http://popurls.com ) is fundamentally a meta-meta-aggregator, aggregating the aggregators! Saving time by delivering the headlines... and photos and videos too. Of course our cozy Clipmarks is on the list, which I hope is bringing us incoming traffic and curious new clippers! =D GET YOUR CLIP ON!

POPSThe lush art of Jacek Yerka These small thumbnails do no justice to the otherworldly landscapes of this master painter (I think those are paints). My girlfriend showed me this and I just *had* track down the name of the artist.

POPSWill There Be Cities in a Virtual World? Always cool to see predictions that've come true. Some 6+ years later after this was published, we know now what's happened. And the answer, looking at the specific instance of Second Life, is yes. :) P.S. Not the first time either, as pioneering, earlier online worlds like Habitat have demonstrated. Odd how this article is heavy on the words but misses out the key concept of an "avatar" as digital persona.

POPSRoo Reynolds, Metaverse Evangelist I like job titles that make you do a double-take. I recently spotted this in the Beeb online. These types of articles are becoming more common; I can't imagine it's too long before the novelty wears off and they become ubiquitously meshed yet valuable, like what Steve Jobs thinks of Levi jeans. ;) From an insider perspective (I work for Linden Lab), I should note how dapper Roo aka Algernon looks, and how unique his head is shaped: you'll often not find prominent eyebrows like that in Second Life, especially paired with big blue eyes and a teardrop-shaped head not unlike that of a classic Gray alien. Lots of room for avatar customization, that's for sure.

POPSWhat if the Beatles were avatars? Menno Ophelia, a Resident of Second Life, made this inspired tribute to one of the greatest rock 'n' roll bands of all time. His Flickr photostream also has tributes to Nirvana and Kraftwerk. This particular shot was taken in the famous region of Midnight City. Makes me think about how John Lennon might have used a computer to make music.

POPSEver wonder why some websites are so narrow? I sure did, and I've been getting to know why! This sure clears up a lot: remember, books we read are often taller than they are narrow. Old-skool web text sprawled across widely looks very unnatural and difficult-to-read when you're aware of what *comfortable* conditions are supposed to be. Enlightening study!

POPSThe exploratory films of Andrei Tarkovsky I've never ever seen any of these, but it's on my to-do-someday; which is why I'm clipping it! Apparently, I found out the Richie Hawtin video for We(All)Search, which features telekinesis and an unsettling vibe, uses footage from Tarkovsky's Stalker. He's also known for the earlier cinematic adaptation of Solaris.

POPSTime travel: must bring your own weapons This is one of my fave classified ads of all time — I think I first saw it on Jay Leno. Shortly thereafter, I spotted it in numerous places 'round the Net. It's been going around for awhile, but always a goodie if you haven't seen it yet. I wonder if it refers to hunting dinosaurs...

POPSHow to make an awesome logo Pretty empirical guide to putting your own easily-recognizable identity together. If anything, it helps calm fears that "IT'S TOO HARD!" I should note tho, that Blue Laguna's logo appears to have changed yet again after the making of this tutorial.

POPSHarness the artistic power of hundreds of tiny dancers You may never find out how many angels are needed to fit on a head of a pin, but c'mere and upload your fave graphics into the dance and sign generators. Result? They'll all line up and behave for you in perfect formation. I think the operative word, as written by artist Mariko Goda, is "kilofesta"! Credz to Sarah aka secret canadian for letting me know.

POPSUltra-fun algorithmic games by Jeffrey Ventrella These Java applets are a lot of fun. There's also some Windows software to download, and more to explore on the site. If only the whole contents were assembled into an adventure, akin to The Castle of Dr. Brain. I may've showcased these goodies before, but it's more than well-worth experiencing them again. And if you've never played with 'em before, GO!

POPSGot too many comments to keep track of? coComment! I'm really likin' coComment. Before, I had all these bookmarks in a folder to track comments I'd left on sites. It got pretty gnarly (in a bad way). Now, for the most part, I can use coComment. While it doesn't do forums, doesn't recognize some sites like Lifehacker and doesn't seem to work with Clipmarks either (yet!), it *does* work with most blogs and keeps all comment threads tucked on a neat page for future reference. coComment's saved me a lot of time thus far!

POPSBeautiful and colorful masquerade masks Those first two, apparently "Jubilee & Companion", are almost in my preferred color scheme of green and pink. A lot of very pretty ones 'round the site; looks like it'd add some thrills to your partygoing life.
