IRAQ - Coalition of the Billing
    BobbyRutan
    by BobbyRutan  7-4-2007
But critics worry that troops and their missions could be jeopardized if contractors, functioning outside the military's command and control, refuse to make deliveries of vital supplies under fire. Adding an element of potential confusion, no single agency keeps track of the number or location of contractors.

If we don't wake up soon. The gestapo in America will control everything. They have already killed a soldier and gotten away with it. But then they have gotten away with killing thousands of people. And it has been without question.

Cindy Speaks Out and Leaves the Dems
    zasel
    by zasel  5-28-2007    3
Cindy Sheehan makes some excellent points in this open letter to Congress. The Democrats were put into power after 6 years of total Republican control of the House and Senate primarily because the voters wanted them to end this war honourably. They have the vast majority of the country on the side of ending the war and cutting off Bush's blank check. Now that they had the chance to do it, they flubbed it and gave Bush what he wanted with the suggestion of "wait 'til next time." The public, I sense, is tired of waiting, and they do not see why the Democrats folded like a house of cards when they finally have the power to do something towards bringing this war to a close.

This is a three page story that is enormously powerful. I could never hope to clip enough of it to give you the feeling of this piece. I urge you to go to the original URL and read it for yourself. It is a real eyeopener, and it is the least we can do for this hero.

GI's in Iraq no longer True Believers
    BobbyRutan
    by BobbyRutan  5-27-2007
From the article: Safstrom, for example, comes from a thoroughly military family. His mother and father have served in the armed forces, as have his three sisters, one brother and several uncles. One week after the Sept. 11 attacks, he walked into a recruiter's office and joined the army. "You guys want to start a fight in my backyard, I got something for you," he recalls thinking at the time. But in Safstrom's view, the American presence is futile. "If we stayed here for 5, even 10 more years, the day we leave here these guys will go crazy," he said. "It would go straight into a civil war. That's how it feels, like we're putting a Band-Aid on this country until we leave here.

The American Public is Sick of Bush's False Bravado
    zasel
    by zasel  5-15-2007
The public wants Bush to be accountable and to hold the Iraqi government accountable. They are tired of having the president permit more of our brave service people killed or maimed, and our treasury being depleted indefinitely while the Iraqi government does nothing to reach any benchmarks, and actually plan to go on vacation for two months as our soldiers continue to bleed and die in the stinking heat of Baghdad and the rest of Iraq, I really hope the public stands firm and strong, and insists that the congress force a meaningful set of benchmarks with real consequences for the Iraqi government failing to meet them. They should also tell them that if the Iraqi government takes the summer off, so are our troops. They need the rest far more than the politicians do.

    The Iraq Money Trail
    thisnamecantbetaken
    by thisnamecantbetaken  4-18-2007
Cheney may be the most visible profiteer to those who find it difficult to follow the war on terror money trail, but many other members of the administration with insider knowledge set themselves up to profit early on as well. I never have been able to understand how war profiteers can enjoy their earnings. I think any profits from war should be funneled back into f.ex. providing equipment for the troops or post-deployment health care for the people (and families) who actually FOUGHT the war or for the civilians caught up in it all and to the people who actually paid the price! It's blood money, if you ask me.

Has Our Government Lost Its Mind Completely?
    zasel
    by zasel  4-9-2007    7
This is where the hysteria caused by government overreach begins to infringe on individual and constitutional rights. I certainly believe that all reasonable actions should be employed to keep us safe, but common sense and decency has to be considered in doing so. The terrorism watch list should not be used to discriminate or intimidate people who voice opposing opinions from our government, or who participate on peace marches. Hell, aren't these two of the rights we are claiming to be fighting to protect in our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? The Bushies and neo-cons have gone hog wild and they just decided that their own beliefs permits them to use the Constitution as toilet paper.
