POPSStudent removed from school & banned from graduation for creating map of school
Apparently, the kids created a map-mod of his school so he & his friends could play it in a game (like counterstrike or some other multi-player game, probably fps). Now I understand why some might get their panties in a knot over this, but I think it was likely innocent. Back in the day, my buddies and I did the same thing, creating a map of our school in i think doom or quake. We did it fir fun, not to "practice" killing our fellow students, but simply because we thought it would be fun play in a familiar map. That and it was a lot easier than dreaming up our own maps. Our lab prof thought it was fantastic and even played with us once (he was terribly horrible, but we thought it was awesome that he encouraged us to be creative). I think this kids was just doing it for fun, with no malicious intent. Now, however he has every right to be angry, they painted him as a terrorist & potential murderer, this will probably go on his permanent record even if he is cleared.

POPSSome Schools Banning Homework At first, I was lie.. "Oh come on!, even I'm not THAT liberal..." but after reading the article.. well, if it i sin elementary school, and they have proven homework does little to help (besides reading at home), then maybe they have something. If the teachers instead focus on building good processes for teaching kids how to learn and studying in class, then maybe... I'm not an early childhood educator though...

POPSShould you pay Science and Math teachers more? - Kentucky thinks so... The two-year cost of the bills is estimated at $4.7 million and $9.2 million, respectively. The savings to students from exam costs and tuition assistance is estimated at $7.9 million for the two years. By comparison, giving every teacher in Kentucky a 1 percent raise would cost the state $23 million a year, Kelly said. The Senate has passed both bills, and they are now awaiting assignments to House committees. ... The primary opponent is the (Kentucky Education Association), which represents 38,000 public school teachers in Kentucky.

POPSFederal Rules Back Single-Sex Public Education Not really sure this is a good idea. My main issue is with the kids not having the proper exposure to the opposite sex. this may only lead to more discrimination between the sexes and more ignorance. Though the basic ideas (those being that when boys and girls are separated they are easier to teach, and that you can focus on the strengths and weaknesses of the sexes (math strong for boys, literature strong for girls, which I'm not sold on)) are not too bad, I don't think that segregation of sexes will lead to any good. I see instead more bad coming out of this... My other issue, is they say it is voluntary.. for whom? The child or the child's over protective parents?
